Description Thoughts: This is a rather straightforward image, with relatively little to relate.

Robotnik's expression was meant to be a little mixed, with one side appearing rather stern, while the facing side bears a kind of sly or manipulative look. A half-smirk hides his intent...

My primary concern was toying with the inner surfaces of Robotnik's shoulder armor and neck-lining material. Instead of the typical smooth lines of fabric, I've added various small extensions of devices; the shoulder armor has also been somewhat significantly altered as to have further functions - in this case, facial/head protection: where the inner border of the armor, in conjunction with the lower collar-tab, can slide over Julian's face and head, leaving a visor and full respiration unit. Odd, yes, but practical ... After all, having your mobility of common work time and attention is one matter, but having a helmet at hand at all times for protection is rather akward to manage. More notably, with Freedom Fighters and other irate Mobians likely out for your blood (or violent capture), it serves best to have immediate defense against attack, where bombing, noxious gas, or any other dangers where a full-body environmental containment suit is required.

Details: A short sketch and basic exercise.

Materials: mechanical pencil and Canson sketchpad paper.

Cynicide: Heh, this is what the effort of 4AM restlessness inflicts upon your eyes. Fear.

One of the most memorable villains in the history of video games and TV.

The opinions are many, but among fans the respect is virtually universal.
Though the Sonic universe is quite expansive, I don't find that many have been able to come anywhere near Dr. Robotnik's acclaim.

Thank you for the comment!

This is interesting, and true to the name does imply it.

While his slightly withdrawn pose, cropped body and focus on the slanted eyes and smirk give the main impression of someone who is developing malevolent machinations from behind a facade of friendlyness; I haven't overlooked the sheer size of his shoulder-plates; which serve to not only defend him from some side-long projectile, but also obscure much off his face from anyone who is not in the direct frontal vicinity of him, giving him a more secretive presence.

I also enjoy something about his expression which fits my own view of the man. While the plans and ideas he has are usually brilliant and possibly subtle, he himself is about as unsubtle as it is possible to be. From his dark and honey-dripping voice in the cartoons, to his flamboyant and girthy body to the way he treats his underlings and celebratory manner, he is startlingly obvious, and his expression here denotes that quality wonderfully.

Another good piece.

Ah, yes, greetings again, X-Atmo.

I've always maintained a certain scrutiny towards Julian's overall appearence in his dictator's attire. While his overall design is rather simple, I assume that any re-imagining of it might invove any number of curious additions or logical inclusions.

Practicality would naturally be a part of any given design, but the ability to conceal any one property or technology, yet alone amid the standing of grandoise appearences and flair, becomes an interesting exercise. Although this sketch was a rather swift one, it does illuminate how Julian's range of capabilities will both affect how he is perceived as well as the range of what he is capable of at a given time.

Thanks again, Atmo.

Ooh, I like this one. YOu just got to love that horrible smirk of his, you just know he's plotting to screw SOMEONE over in a truly dreadful fashion. Also like the notes you added concerning the functionability and usefulness of his outfit, very creative it all is.

Ah, it's good to see you about again, Ape. I was just wondering about you as I was posting that image. Hopefully life finds you well?

Yes, much the same thought was going through my mind concerning that sketch. 'Julian smirking - not good!' The only things which would surprass that in threat-level would be Julian smiling (what is he hiding?), or Juilan laughing (unforseeable consequences). Although everyone has their own type of expressions and truthfulness to them, I have always held that Juilan must be a skilled manipulator and actor, able to outwardly give whatever extent of sly appearence that he must. I wouldn't doubt that a special finesse for that would be quite a requirement in dealing with the King and his court of attendants; just because times are peaceful or times are ones of war does not mean that there would be those looking to examine all aspects of who one is, and what they represent.

I am aware that the depiction of futuristic armor is a rather well-worn path. All gear will inevitably have at least a few general characteristics, moreover I'd want to reasonably retain the appearence of Julian's attire. That in mind, it's a rather inflexible effort, at first glance, but I've been meaning to experiment more along the consideration of his personal armor or technical work gear, but I have other short sketches to see to first, and it remains an insubstantial project at this point.

Still, time will tell... Though I'd cetainly like for there to be more time in a day. I am sure we all do. Regardless, its' good seeing you back, Ape. Good luck for now.

Thank you, Genocyber.

I am still unsure of just how to stylize or handle his appearence and girth - over time in the project, he'll vary slightly, each point to it's own, but I've always intended him to have minor subtleties to his appearences. My trouble is more that I haven't decided on a suitable method of doing so.

Toying with his armor is another part of development. The SatAM core design is rather basic, but there are many possibilities to work with, both in his pre- and post- coup attire. Time will tell.

Thanks again, Geno.

...Eh? I see? Well, thank you, Biotype.

There was not much to it in essence, but in any case virtually every sketch has some kind of interesting basis that I feel I should explain. Nothing is made blandly or without progress, and the viewers have a right to know and see what goes into even basic works. It keeps things interesting.

Thanks again, Biotype.
