A fansketch of the Godzilla franchise; this one is the giant praying mantis Kamacuras, or Gimantis. The name “Kamacuras” comes from Japanese word for mantis…kamakira. In the 1967 film Son of Godzilla, three Kamacuras were irradiated praying mantises that resided on Solgell Island and were about to snack on Minilla when Godzilla came and killed two Kamacuras, leaving one to retreat. The third Kamacuras eventually ends up being killed by the giant spider Kumonga, being caught in its web and injected by its poison stinger. In the 1969 film All Monsters Attack!/Godzilla’s Revenge, Ichiro Miki dreams of traveling to Monster Island and witnessing Godzilla. On arrival, Godzilla fights three Kamacuras, but one chases Ichiro into a hole and its fate was uncertain. Ichiro ends up being helped out by Minilla. Kamacuras has the main attributes of a modern-day praying mantis, but it’s size is at a different league.
