Xerxes is the example of what the world Nobility should mean. Despite his privileged upbringing, he does not carry himself as if he was better than others, and he is very generous and giving when others are experiencing times of need. He enjoys being helpful to others when he can, and values the satisfaction in knowing he made someone's day better. That he is humble and generous doesn't mean he doesn't regard himself highly, however; Xerxes is proud of who he is and where he comes from, and he can't help but enjoy talking about himself and his roots when he can get away with it. He doesn't mean to boast, he just genuinely believes he has important things to share with the world. Which he might, in all honesty: while not witty or street-smart, he is incredibly educated, coming from a rich family with high expectations and all.
Big expectations don't always result in good things however, and, as a root of having had to be perfect since childhood, Xerxes is a perfectionist with a big fear of failure and disappointing others. He is incredibly stubborn and will not stop until he has either achieved his goal to a tidy, perfect end, or until he's absolutely exhausted all of his options, at which point he'll take it with a smile and keeping his head high in order to not let others know that he's three seconds away from absolutely breaking down. The fact he does't know how to differentiate a hopeless project or person from something actually worth his time doesn't really help his case.
Despite his school smarts, Xerxes is a bit oblivious and naive in some aspects. He is a glass half full kind of guy, who always believes the best of people and is willing to give them second, third, and fourth chances. He believes in change for the better and goodwill in everyone's hearts, despite the fact some people are genuinely simply not good people. This makes it easy to abuse his kindness and exploit his generous nature for people with malicious intentions. He does have a limit, it's simply very hard to push him to a point where he believes it's pointless to try to get someone else to change.
Overall, Xerxes is just happy and grateful for life and the one he's been given, and he believes he is here to help others along their journey by bringing a smile to their faces and maing their days brighter. It's rare to see him without a smile on his face, and even rarer to hear his tone of voice be anything but booming and cheerful.
History
Xerxes is the only son of Duke Tiberius and Duchess Ravenna, both descendants of long lines of ancient Johto royals. An ancient family story passed down through the generations says that the fire that burns bright within the guts of the Köingsberg family was lit by Ho-Oh himself, though it is probably just a myth. The family name comes from Xerxes's Pyroar mother, and not his father, which might be considered unusual, but it was an agreement they settled upon when Ravenna, in her words, "absolutely obliverated her dearest husband in a friendly battle to settle the family name dispute down." Xerxes has heard the story a million times. His mother finds it humorous. His father just grumbles under his breath at this point.
Being the only child of a rich family of pseudo-royals, Xerxes has had a fantastic upbringing. He's always had every material thing he needed and wanted at his disposition; this has made him, a naturally curious and eager bean, extremely knowledgeable. He is infuriatingly good at most everything; He speaks several languages, plays several instruments, is decent at most sports, is outstanding at fencing and traditional battling, has a vast knowledge of ancient Johto history and the origins of his family name, has an excellent singing voice, can dance, and, to top it all, he is decent at videogames. Really, it kinda pisses some people off how good he is at things, but Xerxes insists on that his possitive attitude simply smiles back at him and bestows him with great fortune.
Being the only child of such a family had its downsides, however. Xerxes doesn't see it that way, but he is good at most everything because it would be unacceptable for him to be mediocre at anything. He was conditioned, from a very young age, to be unable to accept failure and push himself past breaking point if it meant making his parents proud and upholding his family name. A young Duke can't dissappoint, after all. That and... the bethrotal.
Frankly, the lady that was chosen to be Xerxes's future mate was nothing if not a lovely young lass; they met as very young children and, though even as years passed Xerxes did not fall iin love with her, he had come to accept the fact that he was to spend his life with her by his side. He had come to look forward to it, matter of factly, but fate had different plans. On a fateful morning, Xerxes recieved the dreadful news; his someday-to-be wife had died in what appeared to be a car accident. The man that drove her around the city had lst control of their vehicle and drove straight off a cliff and into the sea; his bethroted was said to have died on impact, painlessly, from breaking her neck.
Xerxes was devastated for many weeks. His parents were worried that staying in Johto, seeing all the places he and his technical fiancee had spent time in together, were things that were affecting him negatively. At the ripe age of 17, they sent their son off to his grandparents' for several months, to the lovely town of Floaroma, Sinnoh. There, Xerxes would live many life-changing experiences; he would meet new friends, explore new places, see the world thrugh different eyes and even evolve. He met a little group of rebels that changed his outlook on many things, teaching him that perhaps the traditional ways of doing things weren't always the right ones; amongst the little gang of five was a zorua called Lilura Flox, who he'd stay in contact with over the years.
When his parents deemed him to be well enough, Xerxes was allowed to go back to Johto. With a heavy heart, he bid farewell to his friends and promised to write him letters weekly. Everyone groaned and told him to just e-mail them sometimes. Xerxes laughed and agreed. Though the sights of Johto still brought back memories of a life he wasn't to have, Xerxes saw things differently; perhaps the arranged marriage was simply not meant to be. His parents never really tried to force marriage on him again either, scared that another accident may happen and they'd have to see their boy crumble again. They believe that, in time, he'll come to find love by himself. They know he knows they have high expectations of whichever that future somebody may be.
Despite life's drawbacks, Xerxes continued with his education, continued to have a fantastic relationship with his parents, and continued to be an overall happy lion.
One day, he heard from his friend Lilura once more; she had moved to Kalos! Big change for a small, cuntry-habituated fox. When his friend explained to him why she'd moved there, Xerxes became highly intrigued; he investigated about the state of move usage all across the glove, and his lion heart eventually decided that the potential risk of a full move ban was a worthy cause to fight for. That, and maybe he missed being surrounded by people his age a little bit.
He pondered about the movement for a while, until an e-mail was sent to him by none other than Mr Cool himself.
And who is he to deny an invitation from fate itself?
