"This is a simple concept that I came up with some time ago that was never actually intended to go anywhere. He was supposed to just be in a simple wuxia isekai story about humans being sent to a world of furries to help deal with a warlord who was using an army of robots as well as villains and such from Earth’s past (in the form of legendary people and mythological characters), to enact his rule. He was never intended to be anything more than somebody who would be stuck in that one story that I wrote up to try out a new style while I worked through my writer’s block regarding Storm Path. However, as I was creating him I realized something about him; this character… is actually really cool. From the pose, to the attitude, to the dress, to just what his simple if somewhat pompous attire says about him as a person, I think people would really like him. And so he found a loving spot in Storm Path. Lazarus shifted from just being a self insert to being his own realized character. A hero who wears his heart on his sleeve, he has close ties to Zero, Mileena, and Kesna, and more than any of them would believe. From being set on his path by Soul, Zero’s master, to having been, at one time, Mileena’s lover. Now, 400 years after the destruction of Sudonia, Lazarus returns to aid his long lost lover and the brother who had disappeared so long ago, and perhaps help the boy learn how to attract cute girls while he’s at it.

I honestly see Lazarus as an affable person, who takes something of a big brother role to Zero. While at one time he had defended Mileena’s actions, it had actually been—however in small a part—Lazarus, that helped pull Mileena’s head out of her ass. With her doubts about herself already in place, it just took a fierce argument between the two for her to finally let go of her emotional barriers and admit her evil actions. That, and a punch to the mouth."
