The bear reminds me of that singer from Goldie Lookin Chains. They're a shock rap group from Wales, and they are amazing.

I totally thought that when I first saw them. They look like they would fit in the film perfectly.

Nope, I just felt like drawing a hip hop crew and decided to make them animal characters. My style is influenced by a lot of animated films and character designers from those films though

Luigi, have you ever read Blacksad? If you like Disney and anthro characters on a noir setting, you might like it

I haven't read all of it but a past coworker of mine brought it in to work and I had a chance to flip through it. It looks really great and the character designs are amazing!

people are acting as though there have never been anthropomorphic animals on screen before Zootopia

UmiEbon In reply to Rookie141 [2017-01-25 18:23:47 +0000 UTC]

It's a fair comparison. It's pretty obvious that the Disney art style has a fair amount of influence on Luigi's. So that red Fox in the middle does somewhat resemble Nick Wilde. When factors line up like that, comparisons are going to be made. Nothing to get critical about.

i'm slowly annoyed that people always start about Zootopia when they see an anthro. either you draw Zootopia fanart or you're a fcking furry.

I know, but I guess everyone is amazed on how the animal and human traits blend together in a character design. I always thought that was cool.

Yeah, totally. But you know how it is. Only if a big company like Disney does it, people will recognize an idea or a concept. Same with Frozen. Only after Frozen people accept the idea of two female leads in an animated movie.Β

Rookie141 In reply to Komodo-Toon [2017-01-25 18:03:12 +0000 UTC]

wellll, Robin Hood was by Disney as well and featured anthropomorphs only. Aristocats in a way is anthropomorphic as well. Puss in Boots (not sure if by Disney tho). and if one took the term further, then also movies like The Lion King etc would count

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TeslaSpark In reply to Rookie141 [2017-01-25 19:46:09 +0000 UTC]

I think we shouldn't start liking a concept just because Disney "introduces" it. See John Lasseter wasn't the first person to use 3D computer generated animation. Remember the Money for Nothing music video? It's just sad to see a concept getting recycled by Disney and see them get all the credit like they began it. I will never work for Disney if my life depended on it.

Rookie141 In reply to TeslaSpark [2017-01-25 20:06:32 +0000 UTC]

when did i even- i think you got the wrong person to talk about that. i really love disney and can still see the critique about some stuff they do. black/white thinking people like you should also realize the greys. there's not only hating and liking in big things like this.
moreover disney doesn't "introdouce" a concept, they are using it like people did before and will after them and i've never heard them claim anthros as their invention. i am also not "introducing" anthros just because i like drawing them :T
and that last statement is just, ugh. sorry but i really dislike people who find one thing to nag about and immediately call it hell on earth. you sound like disney was the, idk, company who keeps overhunting endangered species.

I'm not bitching, I'm just stating my opinion. Besides, what I really meant to say is that Disney gets too much attention and credit. I'm not saying Disney is the worst, but I do think a lot of other talented animation studios deserve credit; except dreamworks, because it sucks now.
