Description
One moonlit night, a strange yet beautiful child was born to a young woman in the small town of Tallflower. The infant had many unusual features about him; silvery hair and eyes, pale skin, and most notably - a set of small white horns.

The young mother had come to give birth at the local shrine. She did not live in the area, and was there alone. Sadly, she died shortly after the child's birth, and the baby was left in the care of the priests.

The priests were certain that the infant was a sign from the Gods. He was inarguably touched by otherworldly forces, and they believed that he could be raised to be a symbol of the town's importance. News of his birth quickly spread throughout the small community, and soon everyone who lived there was visiting the shrine, eager for a glimpse of the "Moonlight Boy" who had been sent by the Gods.

The Moonlight Boy's life was not a happy one. He was held apart from the rest of the community, and not allowed to play or socialize with other children. Every day was filled with difficult studies and harsh combat lessons. The priests believed that the child could someday be elevated to the status of a Godling - but only through ceaseless training.

Citizens of Tallflower also believed that the boy's very body was a holy thing. They would come to the shrine asking for a lock of his hair, a drop of his blood, a few of his tears. He was rarely touched unless it was by someone who desired a small piece of him for a magical ritual or good luck charm. As a result, he came to recoil from any physical interaction other than combat.

When the boy was sixteen years old, a terrible storm raged through the community. Pelting rain, hail and strong winds tore many homes apart and caused the deaths of livestock and people alike.

After the storm had passed, the frustrated citizens turned on the Moonlight Boy. "If you are from the Gods," they cried, "Why didn't you protect us?! During your time here you have not performed any miracles! You are not a blessing at all, but a curse upon your neighbors!"

A mob was formed, and the angered citizens pulled the young man away from the shrine and into the town square, where he would be forced to explain himself and apologize to the community.

The Moonlight Boy, who was confused and terrified, couldn't form any words. He had nothing to do with the storm, and certainly had no magical powers that could have prevented its arrival. Seeing so many angry faces staring back at him, he became afraid to lift his eyes from the ground and did not speak.

Enraged further by his silence, the villagers began to throw stones, and eventually brought about the young man's death with their violence and cruelty. Traumatized by his sorrowful life and painful murder, the tiefling's spirit fled his body and flew far away into the darkness.

His soul was soon greeted by a calm Reaper , who eased him away from the mortal world and into the afterlife. The Moonlight Boy's unique heritage and intense training made him a soul rare enough for transformation.

After speaking with the God of the Death, the tiefling agreed to become a Reaper, but favored work as a Slayer so that his interaction with humans would be limited. Even hundreds of years after his death, he still finds it difficult to speak to a human soul, and is unable to look a human in the eyes. His Reaper's Mask covers his pale eyes so he will never have to meet another's gaze.

The Moonlight Bay, now known as Cypher, works under the High Reaper Grymm , and has destroyed countless undead with his dark scythe. His Guide partner is the ever cheerful and flirtatious Jinx Nightweaver , whose constant chattering and sunny disposition provides a stark contrast to Cypher's quiet, sullen personality.

Note: Although Cypher was sixteen when he died, he is now many centuries old and has grown into an adult man.
