I thought that Anarchist's Wall was my favourite of this batch, until I saw this. The lighting is so moody, so soft and delicate. Contrasting with the not-so-delicate environment. The reflection pulls your eye down from the window and back up to it. A beautiful composition, you follow and break some rules, but the rules you break are broken with such purpose that it doesn't matter. This is a truly awesome picture.

Thanks again, but now I'm getting curious about your analysis: wich rules I break in this photo? And how?

I'm mainly a spontaneous photographer, so I follow my inspiration and don't think too much to rules and theories when I shoot. More than this, probably I don't even know I'm breaking rules and I'd like to know something more about.

Well a couple of rules for this shot would be as follows:

The doorway you are using to frame the shot "should" be even on all sides. I think that the way you have it adds to the feeling of discord in this shot.

The window "should" be one third of the way across the picture. Imagine a grid drawn over your picture; two evenly spaced horizontal lines, and two evenly spaced vertical lines. The rule of thirds states that items in the composition that are of particular interest or importance should be placed along these lines or at the intersecting points. I think that this shot would be weakened by adhering to this rule. The near symmetry in this shot causes a slight discomfort which is contrasted against the soothing warm light.

I really just love this shot. You follow many rules without even knowing it, but it is a good idea to learn them so you can break them consciously. It can only make you even better!

The rule of thirds is probably the only one I knew for taking a balanced shot, but when I'm in place I rarely think about it and I try to follow my own inclination for that place and that moment, because I tend to prefer a subjective view instead of a *didactic* one. Sometimes it works flawlessly, but I must admit sometimes it ends up to a messed image.

Thank you for taking the time to explain this, and please do the same again whenever you want. I really do appreciate constructive comments!

Good to hear. I love it too. Compliments are good for our egos, but a proper critique will make us better photographers

yes, in the last period I totally felt in love with such kind of places, and the best part is that I've never played a single game of the Silent Hill series

But I've seen the movie though.
