Description The runner-up of July's monthly picture poll at my Patreon!

The shading was a lot of fun to do and overall it ended up looking really nice!

"Further research into the various aquatic monstrous people clued me to the existence of the elusive jellyfish people. Looking into existing knowledge of them proved to be especially difficult as a result. I did not let this stop me and devoted more of my time into finding more about them than most other varieties.

Despite being aquatic, the jellyfish people are not related to your typical merfolk. Certainly they share the same envionment and appearance to some degree, though I discovered that they are more closely related to slime people. Their bodies are mostly composed of water and are typically transparent, it is possible that wizards of the past sought to expand their influence over to merfolk territory and modified the existing slimes they had available to them.

Since their bodies are made of water, they are much harder to perceive in their natural habitat. Despite some of them having brilliant colours or even glowing in the darkness, the sea water mutes these visual effects. An unwary swimmer could find themselves in a group of them and not even know! The luminosity of some of them is the probably cause of the tale sailors tell about the ocean surface coming to light around their ships after sundown.

Another reason for the rarity of the jellyfish people is likely that they actively avoid other races. This is not out of some hidden malice or desire for seclusion. One of my sources informed me that the tail ends of their bodies contain toxins that sting those who come into contact with them and that this is not something they can control. It is thus entirely reasonable that they avoid others to avoid hurting them unintentionally. It is also for this reason that they are not usually seen in the same waters as merfolk colonies.

I could not get an actual representative of the jellyfish people for further information, though I shall keep my ears open. Perhaps more recent magical advances could offer a solution to their unwillingly harmful bodies."
