Firstly I absolutely love the overall look of this piece, it's really beautiful, i think it's one of your best, well done e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>
Lighting-
I think the lighting is pretty good, the lighting of the background is really pretty and the horse blends in well. Although i think the horse needs more of a defined shadow because the lighting is relatively strong, although the sun is low as it's a winter scene. I also really like the reflection.
Grounding-
The splashes are very pretty but they don't look quite right to me... i think they need to be a bit bigger because the horse is trotting it would generate a lot of splashing. Here's a tutorial which may be useful, it's not my favourite splash tutorial... but i can't find that one e.deviantart.net/emoticons/f/f… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="380" title=" (Sad)"/> misty-b6.deviantart.com/art/Tu…
Body prep
just perfect, especially the head, my only recommendation would be to make other parts of the horse, such as his tummy and hind quarters more defined too.
Hair
i like the shape but i think it could use more shadow to give it more shape, i sort of showed how i do this with highlights in step 7 of my tutorial here misty-b6.deviantart.com/art/Ma… So in yours I would suggest more shadow on the mane near the neck and on the underside of the tail.
other details
i really like the horns, the markings, the extra hair under the tummy and the horns, i think they've all been done very effectively!

This is a fairly good picture, the anatomy is spectacular. But a few things, the tail shouldn't be that short, the mane should be a bit weighed down by the water and the ice seems a bit too thin, but I guess that in a warm winter, it would be pretty thin.
The technique is great because the horse looks realistic, but the horse's lower legs and hooves do not simply disappear; maybe make the water a bit more transparent?
It's not extremely original, but the pattern and the ice is kinda original, as well as the antlers.
The horse is perfectly visible, I don't think there's a problem with that.
But the background shouldn't be that blurry, I can barely make it out; but I know it's a forest.
It's quite a masterpiece, but the few mistakes you can learn from.
Have a good day! :3

I agree witj some things
But... You do realise this is NOT. A drawing XD.
Also the horses mane is not wet, it has yet to touch the water, and the length of a horses tail can vary greatly. But thank you for the other advice

Hey! So I'm gonna write up a little critique that you requested e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>
First off, I think this is really beautiful!
prep
Firstly, I love all the detailing! One thing though, that I notice, is that the whole horse is really smooth-looking, and although this might be a personal preference, I think maybe lowering the repaint layer to let some of the natural coat texture show c: although I do like how consistent your prep is throughout the horse, I lot of times I see a super pepped area of the horse while the rest is mildly prepped. I also think there could be a few more shadows on the horse, to add more depth and take away from the artificial look (I do understand though, this also may be your style, and I understand manips aren't supposed to be super realistic xD)
hair
I love the flow of the hair, and how you have it flowing above the neck, which I don't see a lot as it is hard to pull off. I do think that there could be more details where the hair connects with the neck, as some of the details were lost there. I also think there could be more depth added by getting a few more shadows in there, or perhaps adding another layer of small highlights??
other
With the splashes and the hair, it suggests that the subject has a lot of motion, so I think you could maybe add some motion blur to the background just to make the movement pop? Lots of movement in a manip often catches people's eye, and is hard to pull off in my opinion.
another things that I notice is that which I downloaded & zoomed in, there are little specks of the antler background still left there. Its very hard to see, and especially if you erase that background on a light/transparent BG they can be hard to catch, so what I do is add a layer of a dark color behind the layer and turn it on to erase the little parts that I miss e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/> (I hope that makes sense?)
But, I love the eye, its so pretty especially with those lashes! The colors are beautiful as well, I'm a sucker for pastels, and all the colors match well, too c: The markings are done well, and splashes can be hard but I also think you did those well <3
I hope this wasn't too harsh (I hope its fair, too! I don't do critiques very much haha), I can be a bit nit-picky, but I hope this helps you! Gorgeous manip overall e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

this is perfect! thank you sooo much! I'll try to improve those bits
(yeah the smooth prep is more of a preference then anything hehe
but I'll definitely add more shadows!

My favorite thing about this manip is definitely the lighting and coloring to it. The soft rose gold is so beautiful and quite unique. You don't seem too many pink-gold mixed manips nowadays. The horns are incredible and the purity of their white really enhances the softness that the color scheme lends. The hair has beautiful flow to it, too, and I love the small details like the beard hair and the sharp cheekbone and bright eyes.

You're welcome! I know exactly what you mean. I appreciate any comment I get but it's hard to really feel warm and fuzzy when the comment could be copy pasted between art pieces and it'd fit. Customized, in-depth comments are really where the happy is at. xD I'm really happy I got the chance to see and study this piece!
