“Coward!”
    The word rung dully in the gloom of the old castle’s throne room, the sound somewhat dampened by years of accumulated dust. Still, it echoed loud enough for Eve to wince as her own angry voice reverberated weakly back to her.
    “Coward,” She whispered this time, her ears pinned back. Hot tears flooded beneath tightly shut eyelids, threatening to bubble free. Eve’s heart beat painfully fast in her chest. Erratic, like a caged bird. The wings of her fear beat relentlessly against her ribs but still she choked back a sob. It was too much and she buckled under her own weight, sinking to the floor in a heap as finally a shuddering gasp ruptured through gritted teeth. Coward, coward, coward.
    Failure.
    She pounded her hooves against the cracked marble of the throne rooms floor, trying to fight the panic and anxiety that threatened to drown her. Turbulent waves of emotion wracked her and for a few moments, all she could do was lay there or else she would be capsized. Suffocated. She couldn’t breathe, her chest tighter than a vice.
    Eventually, she began to count. Breathing in through her nose, she let out short breaths until her chest loosened. She felt some of the panic melt away. The tears continued to fall, making dark patterns around her. With a final, long breath that she held for a few long seconds, she stood shakily back to her feet. The worst of her attack was over, but anxiety still roiled in her stomach like carrion beetles over flesh. It was enough to make her sick.
