Description
Guinea Baboon (Papio papio).

One of the youngest members of the large Guinea Baboon troop at Edinburgh Zoo. In the wild, Guinea Baboons are found in a number of countries in Western Sub-Saharan Africa, including Senegal, Gambia, Mali and Guinea.

The smallest member of the baboon family, Guinea Baboons are currently classified as near Threatened by the IUCN Red List, although they are very close to fulfilling the criteria for a vulnerable species. This is largely due to large-scale agricultural expansion and tree-felling, but they have also suffered as a result of the bush meat trade, as well as being exported for labratory use.
