Description Something I've been working on for a while.

For those of you ignorant, Tortall is the fictional realm created by Tamora Pierce, goddess of everything that is quintessential medieval female fantasy. These are the five main leads in the books concerning Tortall.

Top left: That's Alanna, the original heroine. I'm not going to tell you everything, but I will say that she masquerades as a boy to learn to be a knight and is short, redhead, and rather magically Gifted.

Top Right: That's Alanna's daughter, Aly. I won't spoil the father, but Aly is a plucky young gir who doesn't have any goals in life until she's stolen by slavers and sold to the Copper Isles, where she becomes embroiled in a rebellion to put the old raka (native) people back in power. With her is her romantic interest, the crow-man Nawat.

Middle Right: Veraldaine Sarrasri is the only foreigner and real girly-girl of the fine. Daine for short can speak to animals, and the rest of the series basically explores all of the fantastic crap she can do besides talk to animals, how she got the ability to talk to animals, and her role in the controlling of the Immortals who, after three hundred years, have been re-released from the Divine Realms into the Mortal.

Bottom: This is Tamora's current heroine, Beka. Her series is a prequel to the rest, taking place a hundred years earlier in time in Tortall's capital city, Corus. Beka is the Corus equivalent to a cop, or a Provost's Guard/"Dog", and brings to the field the ability to hear dead voices and a pair of chillingly blue eyes.

Middle Left: Kel is basically Alanna's successor. She's the first lady knight to have been known to be a lady since, well, a while, but she's completely the opposite of Alanna. She's got the patience of a rock and the stature of one as well, but she's really quite funny and an excellent leader.

I've been writing too many English essays lately.

I always loved Nawat. He was so innocent it was charming. I don't get how Aly could resist him

Love the little chibis and (of course) the real things too. I still have to get the second(+) book(s?) of the Beka Cooper series. I really wanna find it, but I am broke, so no new book for me.

you should totally do that. Soon. Bloodhound is pretty cool (although Emperor Mage and/or Trickster's will remain my faves)

This is GREAT! It's so difficult to find great Tammy fan art. Like so many people on here, I've been reading the books forEVER. Coming up to 15 years in fact. Scary!!

Especially love your Daine and Alanna. Any Daine & Numair in the offing? That would make me so incredibly happy!

probably not xD I reread her books constantly, but until I have a better grasp on male anatomy I'm probably not going to try and ruin my favorite romantic interests. (Obviously I'm more of an Aly and Nawat fan myself, but I still love Dainumiar)

Thanks so much for the love!

TORTALL!!

Never liked Alanna very much. Aly I liked (but Nawat creeped me out )

I have to say that my fave from these five would be Beka or Daine. Although Kel's dealings with the resident idiots are sweet!

Do you plan on doing the Circle characters too? Unlike the Tortall series, I love every one of those kids- especially Briar and tris.

I've only read one Circle book (Will of the Empress), so it really wouldn't be fair if I did that I agree with you on the Alanna thing, but I love Nawat :3

You ONLY read WILL?

Go to your library. Get the first four Circle of Magics. Read those, then go back and get the four book sin The Circle Opens. Then Melting stones.

I work in a library, and I think most of the students agree- the Circle is Tamora's best series.

I have Sandry's book and Melting Stones, but every time I go to read them, I just... get sidetracked :/ It's on my 'To-Read' list

You can't read melting stones after Sandry's book! There's.. seven in between!

They are! They're from a series of series by Tamora Pierce. They're kind of girly, but they're still kickass awesome.

The last Tamora Pierce book I read was Melting Stones... and before that... augh, it's been waaaay too long.

Anyway, I'm loving how you drew/colored their hair, especially Daine's and Beka's. Also, Beka's expession (not the chibi one, lol) is... subtle, in a powerful way, if that makes any sense.

Hair is fun.

I recap the entire Tortall series maybe three or four times a year, I love it that much.

I only read a couple of Kel's books like two years ago, but then summer ended and our weekly library visits were cut. I've always wanted to read Alanna's stories.

ah! Another person who loves Tamora Pierce and Avatar, huzzah! Right now I'm reading Melting Stones by her. I can't wait to get home for the summer (yes I'm in college and totes still read Tamora Pierce. She is made of win!) so I can reread some of her books to get ideas for fanart, I've been itching to do some for a while now.

I've never gotten in to Circle of Magic - I've read Will of the Empress and that's it :/ I just like Tortall

And I'm in high school and I like 90s cartoons, so we're equal.

orphius In reply to luna-wannabe [2009-05-02 22:23:40 +0000 UTC]

dude that's because 90s cartoons are awesome.

Yeah I thought Circle of Magic was alright- I think I like her Tortall books better. I still need to read the sequels to circle of magic. I saw Melting Stones when I was at the airport the other week and was all "omg tamora pierce, I needs it!"

luna-wannabe In reply to orphius [2009-05-02 22:43:51 +0000 UTC]

Read Beka. It's (I think) Tamora's first stab at first-person-journal-POV, and it's really long, but it's super cool

And you're right - 90s cartoons are awesome!

Loves. I read Alanna when I was 13 and have forever enjoyed Tamora Pierce's work. And thanks for reminding me I need to order the series for Beka so I can pick them up while I'm home.

P.S. The chibi versions are awesome. Great work.
