BACKSTORY:
Lunaria was abandoned at birth. Her mother was a struggling housewife whose husband was very unfaithful, so in order to cope with it, she began having affairs of her own. Lunaria was a product of one of her affairs. Abigail, Lunaria’s mother, couldn’t handle losing her husband as she couldn’t maintain herself and her two sons. Abigail refused to tell Damien, Lunaria’s father, about the child and felt the only way to get out of this situation was to abandon Lunaria. Abigail feared Lunaria growing up and haunting her in the future, so the only solution she could think of was to abandon Lunaria where nobody can hear her or find her, in the nearby forest, far from the town and from anyone who could hear the infant's screams.

In the forest, Lunaria had to endure a cold night and nearly faced death until a wolf named Apollo found her. He took her as a sign from the moon goddess, Selene, and took the infant into his secret society deep in the forest inside a cave. He presented to the tribe Lunaria, who he had named after the flower, and her middle name, Selene, as a tribute to the moon goddess who gave Lunaria the chance to live through that cold and dangerous night. Apollo raised Lunaria on his own with help of an oracle named Sapphire and his two sons who adored Lunaria and treated her like their own blood. Her two brothers were also wolves, named Solaris and Cyrus.
The secret society Lunaria was raised in was quite unique. It was located deep in the forest inside a hidden cave which nobody would dare walk into, as it was surrounded by bones and savage wolves who enjoyed the strangers that would meet their fates when coming across the cave. Lunaria, of course, never got to see the outside world she was born in, as she was raised as part of the tribe, which kept to themselves as much as possible. It was rare for a guardian (what they're known as) to leave the cave for the outside world. Lunaria didn't mind this until the day she discovered she wasn't a blood guardian. After her father's disappearance, her mentor, Dusk, beginning to abuse her due to her natural small size and weakness compared to a natural born guardian, who had much more strength and size no matter the species. Dusk was Lunaria's mentor after her father passed. She was named after a moon goddess, so she was pushed to learn the ways of the moon guardians, rather than the ways of the sun guardians, like her father and two older brothers. Dusk was one of the eldest moon guardians, and he was forced to raise the weakest of them all, which disgusted Dusk, feeling it as an insult for someone of his knowledge and position in the guardian pyramid to train an ‘outsider’ that had no special abilities or skills.

Nevertheless, against his wishes, Lunaria became his apprentice and his weakest student. He was harsher with her than any of his apprentices in the past. He would demand more of her, make her do chores instead of training, and mainly things that would involve her not being in his presence, such as cleaning rooms and the mess hall or helping the earth guardians with farming. Although this didn’t help her training, she did manage to make friends with each of the guardians and learn a little about each of the guardians, which sparked her interest in studying the culture she had been raised in all her life. When she hit her tenth birthday, she was gifted the opportunity to see the great Moonstone, which has the life source that kept the moon guardians living immortally.

When guardians come of age, they can hold the moonstone and attempt to ‘power up’ with it. She was more than excited for this day, for she could finally prove herself as a true moon guardian despite not being one by blood. The ritual is done in privacy, the guardian who comes to age is given the precious gem and left alone with it in the gem room to ‘figure it out’ and they may take as long as they wish. Lunaria took a few hours too long though, which drew people away from the door, leaving Lunaria in complete privacy. She struggled and tried but couldn’t draw any energy from the ancient stone. After nearly the entire day passing, her teacher, Dusk, came into the room, breaking the number one rule of the ritual. He closed the door shut, and even locked it, saying he wanted to help Lunaria. But Lunaria was much smarter than she was when she was younger, and knew it was against the rules to help a guardian in the ritual; she wanted to do it herself. Dusk, who had a secret lust for power, did not like how Lunaria refused to listen to him and struck her across the face. Only the first hit in many, it only ceased when Lunaria released the moonstone from her hand, which caused it to crack upon contact with the floor. Dusk was horrified and quickly went to pick it up but the brute force of his hand finished the job and the moonstone shattered, causing an explosion to occur, which brought all the guardian’s attention.

Dusk was missing from the room while Lunaria was badly injured, not only by the explosion of great power, but also from the blows Dusk took out on her. She was hospitalized for only a week, and once she got out, she was stronger, faster, and more resilient. The disappearance of Dusk and the moonstone shattering caused great panic within the other moon guardians. They could no longer heal, or rejuvenate. Soon, they began aging and eventually passing away.

Lunaria was blamed for the moonstone shattering despite her telling the truth about Dusk; they just refused to think of the ‘greatest moon guardian’ doing such a terrible thing. She was trialed and punished for the shattering and was sentenced life in hibernation, which for them was freezing a person in both life and time. Lunaria would be in that state for nearly 20 years before she reawoke and faced the modern era by herself.

She would have to adjust not only in the lifestyle she is not accustomed to, but also old threats that came to light during her slumber. On her path to a normal life she met another hedgehog named Pathos who would help her through her new life as a normal mobian.
