Yesterday, I went with to the St. Louis Zoo and I took tons of pictures. It had rained earlier, so there weren't many people there and the animals were really active. I've never seen the big cats so active before, so I got a lot of great photos. Kara was more active than I'd ever seen her before.Related content

this is kara, one of my favorite cats! i recognized her instantly in a feature and thought "that's her, but it doesn't look like one of my shots." you can find plenty of pictures of her and her mate everest in my gallery. do you live in the st. louis area?

Yep! I love visiting the zoo and I try to go at least once a month.

i am a volunteer photographer for the zoo, so i am usually there a couple of times a week, almost always in the morning (close to sunrise if possible). some inside information, since i have run into a couple of people lately that didn't know this: you can get into the zoo before it officially opens. none of the indoor attractions (bird house, reptile house, etc.) are open, but many of the outdoor animals, including the big cats, are out in their habitats. you get great light, and not too many visitors in your way. as an added bonus, you can park in the lots without paying when you arrive before the official opening time. if you ever see me there, feel free to introduce yourself, i always like meeting new people.

Man, the St. Louis Zoo, guards their animals! I can't find this gorgeous guy's/girl's name anywhere!
I love how the picture turned out! Especially, the eyes! I love the color! In fact, I think that "bad lighting" worked out rather well!

I'm glad you like it. I think not having heavy shadows works for snow leopards, but not much else.
I have a couple more, but I don't know if I'll put them up just yet (and I'm absolutely horrible at naming pieces and I don't want to think of some right now).
