Hehe, yeah they're kinda filtered in the books in places. The first one that Todd McCaffrey did had one featured pretty well but yeah, this was us goofing off on our RPG >.> hehe

Hehe! Yeah, he was fun to do... but challenging. Luckily I had a giant chunk of Sodalite in front of me to pattern him off of. >.< Technically Xaventh (the bright blue) should have some flecks in his lighter tones but I sorta... forgot. heh... and he's my draggie too... that's a bit sad.

Can't say that I have looked at a praying mantis' eyes, but now I'm curious. The effect certainly does work well for the shot though.

As complicated as it may have been figuring out how to squeeze those poor blue boys in the closet it came out amazing! I love the color shading you use on them. It looks so smooth I almost thought you had done it digitally.

Hehe, thanks! Yeah that smoothness would be the lovely effect of the prismacolor pencils applied heavily. They become almost a waxy oily pastel which is sometimes really hard to work with >.< but the effect was exactly what I wanted as my digital skill isn't that great yet. >.>

I have Farber-Castelle watercolor pencils I haven't dabbled in for a while now since I started drawing digitally. I'll have to give the Prismas a try one of these day. I love the way the hide patterns come out in your drawings. One of these days I'd love to get even close to your skills there.
If it helps any with digital try just smoothing out and blurring your sketches. That's where I started and it all kind of snowballs from there. I really only use GIMP and pretty much teach myself with help from tutorials. If you ever need help with basics just let me know.

Watercolor pencils are tough stuff to use unless you do infact used watercolor (or you want that gravelly texture on the paper). The prismas, being oily, don't have that... but they get sticky and hard to work with in each other (almost like bad oil pastels or crayons) so that's why a base with either the watercolor or a less waxy pencil (crayola, prang, derwent) works really well.
You know... I used to do the smoothing of traditional color in digital and I just haven't played much with digital since I was much younger. I did some digital photo manips for characters which I -might- post in scraps in the future... but yeah. I just got lazy with digital.

Hehe, it was a blast! The epitomy of the used of a random event. (two really, with Deo being drunk... and we managed to unknowingly incorporate an older unplayed third when Deo was hit in the head with a bucket)
