It's been very hard for me to get them lately, but generally sets go for about $350.

A mask and tail combination like this would be lovely, but do you have an estimated price for it? would it be a possibility to commission them separately at different times? also, for the tail, is it possible to add a carbine clip? I've gotten a fox tail from your store before and it was fantastic, great clip and very sturdy, but if that's not a possibility with a wolf tail, I understand. A price estimate would be great, if you could! (: I don't know how often you have wolf pieces to work with, but I'm assuming they'd end up being more expensive than your fox crafts?Β

Did you get it from a responsible source?
If so, I have no problem with people using pelts like this; HELL! I want one!!
That is an amazing use of the face!!
(The ONLY other use I like of the wolfs 'face' was they had made the 'face and hood' a 'helmet' !!!
(Similar to Sokkas' in Avatar: the Last Airbender)

Do you know how many animals that are hit on the side of the road?!
Seriously; I come across I don't even know HOW many coyotes every day!
SO is it so wrong to use the skull/bones/ pelt of an animal who is ALREADY DEAD?!
If so, than the coyote skull dream catcher is KILLING THOUSNDS OF DEFENCELESS COYOTESS!!
Β
Also, there are MANY organizations who, while they allow hunting (mostly in Brittan) is STRICTLY watched, and seasons NEVER coincide with the breeding season.
It IS possible to overhunt in certain areas of the world, but guess what?
As awful as it may seem, sometimes they have to, toΒ keep the populations down.
(This happens a lot with deer, and other vixen. Overpopulation of animals don't help anyone either!)
True, there ARE illegal poachers, but believe it or not, if they want to sell it, it has to be stamped, showing it was taken within the limits.
Most placesΒ willΒ use Β EVERY part of the animal - the bones, pelt, hell, they use the meat, even!
Don't think that just because they are ONLY showing certain parts, doesn't mean that's Β all I> they take from the animal.
Especially my people - we don't kill an animal, unless we can use ALL of it soon.
So you need to chill. You don't know whereΒ people get these from.Β Β

I don't care, Don't you understand That they were Β live animals,Wolves are critically endangered, and by 2020 they might all be extinct and all these pieces of shit people Β kill these beautiful creatures and many other species, It doesn't matter if you buy scraps or whatever, you need to realize that you're promoting hunting, and using fur and materials for your own selfish ways, your Username is ''lupagreenwolf'' so I'm guessing you love wolves? If so...Your using a Symbolic animal of the wild.THE WOLF. I how can't you Β accept the fact that hunting is a pretty fucking cruel thing...
Goodbye.

Also, just one quick look at Wikipedia shows that Canada alone has 52,000 - 60,000 wolves, and that population has been stable for decades. It's not about to go poof, especially since wolves tend to stick to less populated areas AND the hunting is regulated; people don't just go and shoot however many they want. As far as hunting goes, a quick bullet to the heart is a lot faster, more humane death than the deaths that a lot of wild wolves face through starvation, disease, injury, being torn apart by rival packs of wolves, etc. Not that this means we should shoot all wolves, but when you're talking about "cruel" consider the alternatives.
I've spent the better part of two decades studying wolves and other wildlife, as well as the impact of hunting and other activities on populations. I don't do what I do without care; I am careful to make sure that the remains I work with are not from populations that are threatened with extinction, and I stay strictly within the laws--I even maintain a database of animal parts related laws at www.thegreenwolf.com/partslaws⦠.

Please cite your sources on "all may be extinct by 2020". The populations in Canada and Alaska are very healthy, allowing for a limited and Β controlled amount of hunting, and that's where my hides come from. Hunting is one of the few ways people that far north, to include Native/First nations people, have to make money to pay for kerosene and other necessities. In fact, this head and tail came from a small Alaskan family who make parkas for a living, not some trophy hunter.
I'm guessing you also missed the part where I donate a portion of what I make on my art to nonprofit groups that benefit wildlife and their habitats, not just wolves, but many other beings that are necessary for the environment. Wolves are charismatic megafauna and are important, to be sure, but cam you explain to me why invertebrates are important to an ecosystem, too, perhaps even moreso than wolves?

It is really upsetting, I agree with you there! And that's why I'm really, really careful about where my hides and bones come from, because I don't want to contribute to the demise of species that are really threatened. The poaching of tigers, for example, makes me very angry, because there's no need for it, and there are only a small number left in the wild. The vast majority of what I work with is from nonthreatened animals like coyotes and foxes, and when I do work with something like wolf, I do my research as to sources, and I don't make them the center of my work. And, of course, I try to give something back in the form of donations.Β
You and I probably agree on a lot of things about the environment, I'd be willing to bet. And I really appreciate you being willing to have this conversation with me, even if it wasn't necessarily an easy one to have.

Yeah, sadly US customs restrictions don't allow anyone to ship wildlife parts out of the US without lots of fees and permits and such. I can send things made from domestic animals, like cows and pigs, as well as anything not made with animal parts at all, but the wildlife's gotta stay here.

Yes indeedy! A set would be around $300 for both the mask and the tail on the belt, not including a pouch. It would depned on the color and quality of the hide used, too.

I don't like that this was made of real wolf fur-- my people regard wolves with the utmost respect and reverence that killing one is practically sin. I love animals, wolves being my favorite, and seeing one killed for sport and just their pelts is depressing. But when it's for survival and they don't waste anything it's a bit more... tolerable. [Not bashing your work. It looks very good and well made. I'd just prefer it be fake, that's all.]
I was wondering if you -- or anyone else for that matter -- could tell me where to find something like this? I've been searching but this was all I could find. I looked at your link that led me where you have custom pelts/headdresses for wolves etc... but I'm unable to afford such. I'd also prefer it be faux fur instead of real. If you're unable to help me, I'll understand.

Hmm... Not a bad idea. I appreciate the idea, hadn't thought of it myself to be honest. I've gone around since I commented on your work and haven't found anything else so that might be my only option if I want faux fur.

lupagreenwolf In reply to Crazy-Rainbowness [2012-02-26 07:08:42 +0000 UTC]
Nope. It's tanned the same way as leather, so it won't rot.
The wolves were most likely hunted by people who make their living that way in Alaska; there aren't as many employment/survival options up there. The wolf populations are healthy enough to allow limited hunting, and death by a bullet to the heart is a much quicker and less painful death than disease, parasites, infected injuries, and other common deaths.
