I really should've planned my background in advance tho'..!

My side of the art trade with Pyek, and her original species, the Keliper. :'D

It's just so beautiful... and so different than your usual style I couldn't believe it was yours when I first saw it. He has so much texture, I can almost feel the smooth white and the wispy, a bit coarse green fur. You should definitely color like this more often. What is the difference, by the way?
The background is great, honest! Now I kind of want to see you paint scenery because you rarely do it and it looks like you're good at it. x3

Hanging vines whee o/

Thanks! I surprised myself actually... xD;; But I will be colouring in this style more.. maybe..!
I actually started colouring the same way I usually do (lighting & shadows first, then the base colours). But instead of overlaying the bases on like I usually do, I just... shoved 'em underneath and clipped the shading layers to it. I usually don't like doing that, because the lighting isn't as powerful... but then I realised the lighting didn't really matter as much in a picture like this. xD;

Hnnggg, I might, but while I was drawing it, I was completely 'this is going to look terrible' all the way through it because it just wasn't looking right...
Your suggestions of vines saved it, I think! 8'D

Please do!
I guess it depends on the mood you're going for in the picture. I do love your dramatic lighting, but when you do it every time, it gets a bit... predictable? Which is also why I was so WOW'd with this - it's different.

Vines can save anything! o3o Put them in EVERY PICTURE. from now on. yes.

I guess! I was worried about repeatedly using the same techniques... xD;; Although I do try to experiment in every picture, really..!
Though I tried this technique again in the exact same way, and... I wasn't quite as happy at the result. It just struck an 'amateur'ish nerve in me.

OF COURSE...!
Must be the secret to art!

It can get a bit stale. xD Variety is something there's never too much of. Not saying you're lacking in it, y'know, just add

Amateurish, how?

WE FIGURED IT OUT YEY
