these daysyour name has been slipping
in and out of my rib cage
and sometimes,
my heart forgets to beat.
it's funny,
i supposeβ
how even after all these months i still
don't want to believe that
you're dead. how during the
first couple of weeks i prayed
to a god i didn't believe in and begged to know
if death tasted sweet to you. how once,
when the monsters in my head
didn't let me sleep, i
wrote you three poems and then
destroyed four.
you were a supernova that
lit up my life for
a few radiant moments before,
like all good things in this
filthy world,
you came to an end.
the sinner in me hopes that you have wings now.
but i think that,
most of all,
i hope you no longer
remember what pain
feels like.

9-9-14 was hard for me, it marked two months since my father (who was an amazingly loving father) passed away. I'm a Christian, so I do know where he is now because his love for me was nothing compared to his love for our Savior. And that, among all the pain that is eating me up inside, is my one peace. That he is finally where he has always wanted to be, in Heaven with our Lord.
But the pain is unbearable. Having someone you loved with every fiber of your being no longer here with you, to hug, to talk to, to laugh with... people keep saying it will get better. But personally that's a load of crap. Because when you love someone so completely and so selflessly their absence in your life will never get better. You may learn to breathe again (but not the same), but that hole, where they should be, will last.Β
My father (next to my faith) IS everything to me. I was blessed to have him in my life for as long as I did, 22 years, but there is so much that we were still supposed to do together....
Sorry... your poem just made all this come out....Β
Bottom line is, don't be sorry when you have to write something to Chelsea. Let yourself write as often as you need to to remember and to honor her.Β
