Actually, I think the contrast between the hand and dragon is very interesting. The sketchiness of the hand and solidness of the dragon makes the dragon seem more solid and the hand less so, and to me gives the impression that the dragon is real and the hand is not quite there. Even is this is accidental, it offers a different perspective, and I like it.
Also, it seems that the nail looks too long because the pink part extends further than the actual finger. To me this makes it look like it has been glued on. I am aware that people have commented on this already, but that is why I think it doesn't look right. The length of the actual nail plate isn't the problem.

I will never let a fellow artist grow complacent! ^^ So...stifling the positive comments...
The thumbnail on the human hand looks longer than the other nail, and stands out oddly a bit. Since you shaded the dragon so carefully but just did line art for the hand, it clashes on close look--more so perhaps because you didn't clean up the sketchy look of the hand. I think it would have been better to show the dragon's hind left leg wrapping delicately but firmly up, over and around your thumb base, its tiny toes spread and gripping.
Is that enough critique? ^^ Seriously, that bitty dragonlet is ADORABLE. But I think if I squeezed him in a hug he'd snap!

Ah, yes my brother sometimes grows his thumbnail out quite long. I can't look at your work at the moment because I'm out the door for a family trip, but I will. ^^

I like the dragon. It looks really life-like. Makes me wish there were little dragons you could hold in real life ^_^ Good work incorporating fantasy and references together!

Sorry for not responding sooner as I have been moving countries last month. Thanks for your permission, I will post the result on DevA as well, and link to the original.

Hands are actually fairly easy to sketch once you know how. the trickiest part is making the fingers the right width and length.

Thanks. I had a look at your gallery, and you draw quite well too. But I try to avoid copying directly from photographs (it feels like I am cheating myself by not doing original work).

I use references to get an idea for textures, or of an animals markings, but I try to avoid copying entire pictures.

I like it but isn't the thumb looks kind of strange-not like I can say because I'm not good at drawing hands... (dragon is good too)

That might just be the nail on the thumb, and the angle I was holding it at.
