Description

(Now with full pic!)

Like many fantasy worlds, the lands of the Minsina Ocean have a diverse spread of creatures and mortal races. The civilized people are no exception, with six humanoid races being found on all five landmasses of this ocean. Each diverse with ethnicities and regional traits unique to their homeland. Stretching across cultural boundaries, no current nation is solely of one race.

.............................................

Flock-Kin, Humans: Among the simplest of humanoids, the flock-kin are among the shortest lived and most populous. They congregate in larger bands, build larger cities, and have larger families than their contemporaries in the Ocean Lands. They are the spearhead behind many nations and tribal confederacies, and their herds of people make up notable populations of any region.

Spirit-Kin, Elves, Huldra, etc: Strikingly beautiful, Spirit Kin resemble elegant Flock Kin, taller, leaner, and with often feminine but sharp features. Their connection with the fey spirits and restless dead lead to their moniker, being almost natural spell casters. Yet, all Spirit-Kin, despite their beauty, hide what the rude would call a deformity- a gnarled limb or tendril of flesh, hole in their body, or series of scars, that nigh all spirit-kin cover with beautiful clothing.

Earth-Kin, Dwarves, Golems: Squat and powerful, the Earth Kin are born with bright, earthy, skin the tones of warm clay, that hardens and cracks with age until they are but dusty grey forms. Their hair is matted, resembling dreadlocks or natural braids. The earth kin find companionship among elemental spirits, and within the densest forests or deepest caves.

Demon-Kin, Tieflings, Cambions: Source of many superstitions, the Demon-Kin are believed to have been forged in tainted blood by demons. For their populations swell in the wake of demonic incursions or unholy unions. Yet, the most curious thing, is that Demon-Kin on a surface level, resemble most the Titans of olde, the Gods above- with their unnatural eye colours and horns. Many demon-kin are bony especially in their extremities or torsos.

Mongrel-Kin, Goblins, Oni, etc: Believed to be degenerate offshoots of greater races, the Mongrel-Kin nearly match Flock-Kin for shorter life-spans and higher reproduction rates. But the truth is more complicated, for while brutish, the mongrel-kin are at home among the inhospitable reaches of the world, able to contend with beasts even unarmed, and still live long lives. Lithe bodies, skin tones suited for stealth, and sharp claws and tusks define the mongrel kin.

Beast-Kin, Gnolls, Minotaurs, Lizardmen, etc: To call the Beast-Kin upright beasts would be an oversimplification. All Beast-Kin have an animal’s head, but their body’s ratio of fur or scales to human skin varies. And they almost always have a humanoid’s anatomy, even lacking tails in some cases. Extremely diverse, Beast-Kin across the world have faces of Tigers, Bears, Cattle, Lizards, Snakes, Falcons, and countless others. Some believe, Beast-Kin can be born to any mother blessed or cursed by the Fertility Goddess.

So your taking  another crack at creating a fantasy world , I see some potential in it but I do have some questions about it.

1. Is there any information, features, anything that crossed over from your previous attempt at fantasy? And if there is then what would it be?

2. How are inter racial relations like for your races? How much or how little do they get along with each other?

3. If inter racial hybreeding is possible here how would you justify it other then just magic? And how would hybrid children work and what effects does it have on them.

4. You mentioned the spirit-kin always having a deformity somewhere on there body, what kind of deformities do they often have and how do they view it?

5. Do your races have different ethnicities , aka dividing themselves up into different social groups based on a shared apperance and culture?

6. This is just about beast-kin in general what kind of animals are the most common and which are the rarest? How much or little they fall on the sliding scale of anthropomorphism( aka between just a human with an animal head to full scale Antro) do they tend to fall? Aside from just physical apperanance do they have any other type of animal biology, aka multiple breast, extreme senses, vedomous bites, etc...? Do they all give birth live? If they do then is it just one baby or can they have litters? Are some of them like were animals, no not the Hollywood change on the full moon werebeast, I’m taking about the medevil person cursed into being an animal for commiting some kind of crime? And finally can beast-kin have a centaur like anatomy?

7. How much or how little does fetishes have influence over them? How do the individual peoples view stuff like obesity, inflation, transformation, and all that Jazz?

you don’t have to answer any of these if you don’t want to and if you don’t have and answer yet for anything here then an idk is an alright answer. I’m really looking forward to seeing where you take this world! Keep up the good work.

1. Sorta, kinda, not really- The continent of Trahir was the main setting of my last campaign (now destroyed by demons, so this is either a reincarnation, another world, an alternate timeline, or what. Cashayah has been the default name for my native american inspired fantasy settings for years. Almost nothing of Alternomica has survived to this project. This is where Airy Shamans and Broken Borders takes place- or at least did/do at some point in the timeline. I'm using descendants/related reincarnations of my previous pantheon of gods.

2. At the period of history I'm building for- the majority of nations are divided into clans, tribes, or confederacies- inter racial alliances are common/accepted. For the most part, Flock-Kin are the uniting people, being so numerous that they sort of bridge the gap. Though they have intense rivalry with the Mongrel-Kin. Demon-Kin have a low reputation with the majority of people- individuals will be accepted, but a clan of them are viewed with great suspicion. Beast-Kin tend to be viewed with a mystical air- given wide berth and prone to many superstitions.

3. It's possible, due to the majority of races being crafted from the same base by the Titan-Gods. So they all diverge from a shared ancestral past. Divine "blessing" helps hybrid children survive, and those without it tend to be infertile mules. Often as some form of blend of their parents. Spirit-Kin and Beast-kin tend to have children based on the mother- they will usually share the race of the mother.

4. It's almost never on their face- a tail, rotted hands, feet, or magical rune shaped scars on some part of their body are common. A hole in the flesh in the chest, stomach, or back is also common. They have innumerable superstitions about what their deformities mean. It varies from culture to culture, but usually a hole in the body is seen as a sign of wisdom and deception. A rotted limb a sign of cruelty and nobility. And an extraneous animal part being of feral creativity.

5. Yes, they are divided based on geography, similar to humans of differing skin and hair tones and cultural norms. Though because they are smaller in number to flock-kin, they tend to be more isolated, sometimes viewing their population as the only true population of their kind.

6. Wolves, Big Cats, Birds, and Lizards are the most common. With rarer ones being like, Horses, Cattle, Snakes, Fish, Elephants, etc. Almost any animal could in theory have a representative beast-kin. The head of a beast-kin isn't determined by genetics alone. While a wolf will usually have wolf children, it is "possible" for them to be blessed with a raven headed child. And, Beast-Kin have a pretty solid anatomy- Human body, and animal head. Though there may be fur, scales, feathers, on the shoulders and back- that is the most that they have. It's exceedingly rare for a beast kin to have even a tail or claws. And such things are considered mutations rather than natural blessing. Other animal-hybrids exist- but are outside of what is considered "Beast-Kin"

7. The world isn't built around fetishes- and so- it's by a person by person basis. The nature of some deities does mean that things like fertility, sadomasochism, and transformation are more common or accepted. But sexuality isn't a part of the default world building.

Thank you for clearing things up, I’m alittle bit of a junkie for world building and I just got curious how you went about things in this setting. Also sorry for question number 6 being so long and for number 7 being asked at all , got alittle too carried away.

Why are the Humans called Flock-kin? The design seems to be based on Native Americans, but when I hear people described as a 'Flock' it's usually in a Christian/Biblical context.

Also, I like that the Spirit-kin are more in line with the Fair Folk and not just pointy eared tree-huggers and that the Earth-kin appear to actually be made of stone and not just squat humans. Most fiction just seems to downplay the otherworldly-ness of Elves and Dwarves.

I mentioned in the description that these are random "ethnicities" of the main six races. The flock-kin of Cashayah are reminiscent of Native Americans, while on the northern pole of Zan they're Inuit, the island nations of Viloch or Hamora are Scandinavian or North African inspired, and Shinka East Asian. The term Flock was chosen because of the lore related idea that humans reproduce the fastest in this setting of the intelligent races, building the largest communities. And the term Herd or Swarm had other connotations that were more beasty.

In general, I had no idea that Christians referred to themselves as a flock.

And yee- I wanted to include some form of reference to Elves and Dwarves- but not just the "default" elves and dwarves.

You've really thought out this world, haven't you?

Yes, some Christians use the term flock to refer to themselves. The idea is that if God's disciples are the flock, then the pastor (or Jesus Christ) is the shepherd that leads them.
I suppose regular people aren't likely to have heard this analogy if they don't have a semi-Christian upbringing like I did.

Nah, the idea that humans are but mindless chattel in the eyes of an omnipotent power is pretty old. It's just that some people try to push away the darker implications or give it a lighter spin. XD

When I say "dark lore" I mean stuff that isn't going to be relevant to most stories- but is an overarching theme behind the scenes.

Oh, okay. I've never heard 'dark lore' used like that before.

I just had an idea for a comic. It’s this girl, and whenever she touches water, she absorbs it into her mass. One day it starts raining. TBC
