Description
It was a dank afternoon. Clouds lounged against a gray backdrop, taking long, deliberated drags on their cigarettes. The rain plunged clumsily from the sky, splattering on cement that smeared into the horizon. Gray streets against a gray sky with gray clouds.

She wore the sun on her back. A coat that stretched and sung out with a canary yell. Strawberry curls bulged and spilled out of a matching yellow hat.  I caught a glimpse of neon red lips that curled around headlight teeth. She left little rainbow teardrops in the hollow of her footsteps. They stained the puddles with a glimmer that offended the raven headed winds.

It was a stagnate moment, still, so deathly still. I heard the whisper of a siren crashing down, the clash of a hammer meeting nail to board up the heavens, the thud of a foot on a stubborn brake. The clouds leaned from their apathetic stances, lightning flashed across their hungry faces. I could see the devil in the billows of their leather jackets. They tapped the ends of crispy cigarettes and spat ash on the scene.

She did not make a sound. Her coat dulled the tragedy. Her hat rolled across the road and spun languidly at my toes. There was a sigh as her curls experienced the rush of flight, coiling themselves into tense springs with fearful excitement. I saw her headlight teeth flicker, one busted by an amateur hoodlum. Her sun flared with red and fire melted, pooling like iron in the pothole.

           Her rainbow teardrops crystallized in the corners of gray eyes.

            The clouds leaned back, cigarettes pressed to smirking lips.
