If these were actual characters in a comic it seems to me that Reshiram would be the villain with a massive goal, Latios would be the 'cool' guy who wants to stop the villain, Articuno would be the 'cool' guy's rival - but still trying to take down the villain himself and Lugia would be a friend of both Articuno and Latios and would be the playful guy who's probably the first one to die by the hands of the villain and is therefore the fuel to burn the fire of partnership between Latios and Articuno in taking down the villain.
I thought about that way too much.
