Whenever we hiked in the mountains of little Italian island Elba two years ago - and we hiked all days during our fourtenn days trip there - we had an endless number of awesome perspectives along the trails directly nearby our feet or in the distance. It is an island, on that you mostly have impressions in that the Mediterrean Sea and the landside steep and rocky landscapes build a unique (but for little isles typically) synthese of the big opponents of our earth: landmass and water, rockies and ocean,....but only in spring or autumn, when the big touristical flood of people has gone.
I think, it is (especially, because you have a lot of family-run holdings here) very important to have so much tourists here during the high season. During three months in summertime all other live out of touristical activities has no chance. No problem at all (excepted some heavy notorious problems with the nature protecting issues), because it is due to the heat a not attractive location for gentle tourism...
Here we are looking from Monte Campanello near village of Rio nell' Elba not far away from east end of the isle to west direction, where we can see Monte Campanne, the highest mountain of the isle (elevation 1019 m, 3343 feet) in evening light in the background of the photo quite near to the western end of the isle.
