Description This is the first of two celebrity images I have done. This also marks the return to drawing for me after nearly 10 years of putting it aside.

It really is lovely. If you're aiming for photorealism (which your journal said you were), I'd start practicing with black and white photos, since they offer a better example of what you want to mimic than color. The contrast is more obvious--some of your darks need to be darker. No matter what you draw, it has to have a full range of value.

Your lines are absolutely elegant. I'm definitely impressed. Photorealism, however, requires looking beyond the lines, even in the hair and outside edges of the person. Real life has no lines.

I found the photo from which you were working. I'd say, the expression is a bit off, due to some proportion issues and a need for general softening of the eye/nose area.

For a "natural" talent, I definitely say keep it up, you're doing fabulously. And I am sincerely impressed at your asking for advanced critique and suggestions, rather than ego-patting. I applaud you.

I have since come to understand more of what you're saying regarding lines and softness etc. At the time I did "Jaime Presley" I did not understand the importance...... I am still a long way from where I want to be. I also learned about the importance of the dark being as dark as it can be in real life as well as the light being light.

I appreciate all your comments. Thank very much for even taking the time to look at my work long enough to comment.

I just love this one, can't believe I didn't comment on it earlier. I really have no critique I can offer. I think the hair is lovely, and for me, that has always been my achilles heel. The eyes are beautiful, and look right at you...almost following you. Maybe just a bit more contrast from the background, and darker, bolder shadows, but other than that....this is great...
