This is my styled aqua wig <.< the left side is still in the process cuz it's being really stubborn <_<+Total time of styling: about 2.5 hours :3 (this is my first actual wig styling btw XD)
you can kinda tell -.-" or not? o.O
materials: scissors, got2b glue, and some kind of hairspray o.O
i will be wearing this at sakuracon and kumoricon 2011 ^_^
hope to see some of you people there! :3

This is soso awesome for first time! If...you don't mind me asking, what kind of wig did you use? I'm trying to style an aqua wig as well, but have no idea where to start o.o

well to be honest, this wig is no longer available here in america nor in most other countries 
Also make sure if you buy from Ebay, look at their ratings, and their comments/reviews on their wigs on their page. I always check, and 90% of the time, I get a pretty good wig

it's not too long nor too short, and you can work with it.
But like me (who's lazy and just needs to quickly cut the hair and style it for one or 2 days worth of wearing I'd get something like this: [link]
and I would TOTALLY buy that wig right now if I had the money XD it looks like you can easily style it for aqua

and just to help you I usually google or ebay search "light blue short wig" or "blue medium wig" or something like that.

I'm not sure if just buying this one would do justice...is styling better?
If styling is better, I was just quickly wondering about cutting and parting: do you cut the tips on a vertical end? And, how much would you part in each hair clump?

i wouldn't buy that wig, mostly cuz all the wigs that I see that are "meant" for that character, do NOT come out that way at all. I would just stick with buying one of those wigs I showed you just cuz it would be easier. it took me only about 2 or so hours (only cuz I'm so stingy about detail lawl), but you can easily trim and prep up a wig with some spray and gel easy!
trust me, do NOT spend the extra money on character wigs. often times, you are buying something that isn't worth the money and you can do it yourself.
When it comes to cutting the wig, I would vertically trim it. Going into the wig at an angle rather than straight because you get horrible hair ends. I'll show you what I mean later.

Wow, this wig is amazing, I've got to ask though, the got2b glue, how good is it? I've had experience with it before and well...they were rather horrible and I'm hesitant to use it on my own wig (Which I will also be cosplaying as Aqua lol).
Also for the layering, have any tips for it (I'm horrible at it lol).

lol layering is easy when you HAVE a layered wig XD so i suggest getting a wig that is already layered somewhat, then it makes it easier to trim or what not.
also try to get a wig that is a BIT longer than your shoulders, or a little bit past your neck or else you won't get the length you want in the back.
i'm terrible at trimming the tips when it COMES to layering, but i do have a suggestion from a friend of mine. she says to cut it at an angle (the angle is cutting it so that the hair is cut following your jaw line, i can't explain lol >.<)and to cut it with short quick snips. no longer than .5cm i mean you have to keep in mind to use a good pair of scissors too, cuz if you have a crappy pair, it will RUIN!!! RUIN! the ends sooo bad! DX i have to still touch up the tips cuz of my last pair of scissors making the edges so terribly square and blocky and uneven, cuz it wouldn't cut the strands i wanted, and if it did it wouldn't get the whole piece off (leaving a strand dangling, etc).
and got2b is amazing! i would use the glue AND the spray! that spray holds like a ... it just holds so amazingly well XD i love that stuff! first use a little drop on the tip of your fingers on each tip of the group of hairs you will turn into a spike, and go from the roots, to the tips, in quick motions. then after you do that, hold the spike up to where you want it, and spray that thing, root to tip! and HOLD IT! hold it for like about 1-2min. it's a long process but it's worth it!

Truthfully, your tip from your friend is considerably helpful and I thank you for helping me even though its for my own wig, I'm glad you actually replied too (most people don't sadly). I hope to see some pictures of you Cosplaying as Aqua soon!

LOL XD so i'm guessing you got a straight one? o.o cuz that is going to be a heck of a lot of work to hold the spikes in place

Yeah I did, and I do expect an epic battle with me wielding scissors and hairspray as a sword and shield in an attempt to get those spikes to stay! My Grimmjow wig proved to be a pain but it turned out great, I just hope this will be the same!

um i think it's skyblue? no wait icyblue, but i can't check cuz the store i got it from (cosplay.com) they stopped importing that wig company (airily) and airily is the BEST brand i have EVER had >w< i LOVE it to death <33~ it feels sooo natural and so soft and smooth and fluffy *w*

the name of the style the wig i got was called "wolf base-ash blue" (just checked my favorites) so the color would be ash blue >.<
but yea ALL and ALL that wig will never see the light of america unless you go through a middle man -.-" or you have an address in japan and can get it sent over here lol

Ah, okay. xD I usually just look at the pictures and try to decide if they look like they're good quality or not, but I'm glad to know that Japanese Kanekalon is what I should be looking for, since I think those look the nicest anyway and by chance or luck I have been buying Kanekalon wigs thus far~ x3

the reason why people buy in their own country is so that they can stop importing and having to spend EXTRA money on doing so. apparently it doesn't help when you import everything and barely export anything lol economy goes down XD
but yea mostly everything is imported lol

if you buy things from your own country instead of importing the item, you are helping your people and keeping the money inside the country, cuz once you go outside your country, taxes and other laws get in the mix.

It's well worth it if you can succesfully do it though <3 Better to just avoid the hassle altogether in some/most cases I guess.

yea being a perfectionist can have it's downers especially when you get TOO detailed that it looks crappy -.-" that's why i usually try to make my cosplays look more "realistic" rather than "cartoony" like some >.< it looks more natural that way :3

Yep, sadly being a perfetionist ends up making you go overboard with something, or it makes it where you're never truly satisfied with something because somehow you keep finding all these little things about whatever that drive you nuts and shit D: ...Or is that just me? xD;; I know of one other person who does that though at least.

nono it's not just you XD i get irritated with little things that aren't 100% perfect, but sometimes when i make mistakes, they end up being perfect XD so then i'm happy :3
yea i would rather make it look as if it came to life rather than the other way around >.< i mean sometimes it look sooo ridiculous ._. kinda like how some naruto cosplayers use a YELLOW wig instead of a blonde one -.-" eew. it looks terrible. same goes with sakura cosplayers -.-" and some other characters. but i suppose there will always be a balance of bad and good cosplays/ers. it's up to them to learn from their mistakes and to improve

Me too. I mean, it doesn't need be 100% perfect, but it drives me insane when it's even just slightly innacurate. D; Well that's good c: I've done that too, where sometimes something I did accidentally ended up being better than what I might've done xD

I agree >.< In the case of Naruto's hair, yeah, ew, I've seen quite a few where it's just SO yellow. It burns my eyes ;--; It really can/does look ridiculous and terrible like that... If it's going to be yellow, they should at least go for something less...Idk, bold? :/ It seems like a LOT of Naruto series cosplayers do that in general if the hair color is something like yellow/blonde, pink, blue, etc. XD Not a very pretty sight, really...
