Interesting piece of trivia. Tanukis are actually a subspecies of a dog known as the Raccoon dog, the only dog known to hibernate. Its closest relatives are the true foxes or Vulpes, of which itβs rival the Kitsune (based on the Ezo red fox) is inspired by.
