A cartoon from a collection that was published about 30 years ago, on the theme of the English pub. Things have possibly changed a bit now, but that was certainly the tail end of the spit and sawdust era, when there were fewer regulations (apart from the limited opening hours, and the rules imposed by the proprietors themselves). I have been in establishments that resembled the one above - we would, as twenty-somethings, visit it simply to see how long it would take for the irascible landlord to chase us out just for being under 50.
