This is, I think, the first installment of my monthly gag strip, Young Doctors in Space, that I submitted in full color. It was some while before I was doing any digital work, so the color is liquid acrylic, mostly applied with an airbrush. This one is from about 1995, I think. It might be '96. Anyway, the strip was for the UK sci-fi/fantasy media magazine, Starburst, and ran from 1988 to 2002.Related content

Yes, i used to enjoy doing this. I turned in one a month for 12 or 13 years...some were better than others. I remember sending a few samples to the mag in 1988, and they never got back to me, so after a few months, i called them up and asked them to return the samples (which were original pieces). And the editor just said - 'well, we thought we might run it'. Just like that. The title, 'Young Doctors in Space' was a take on trashy soap opera and movie titles such as 'Young Doctors in Love'. I never gave a name to my main character, although everyone else seemed to have names - his heart-throb space heroine, Sola Rawbitt, his nemesis, Emperor Zygrud and his mad colleague, Doctor Monika. There are a few other episodes in the sub-folder of the gallery, under 'humor'. I will probably upload a few more from time to time.

Prophesy of modern medicine: It won't actually make it better, but it will damage the rest of you, cost a lot of money, while making it get worse at a slower pace, thus prolonging a life of illness and debt.

I've just finished providing a load of illustrations for a book which has turned out to be a scathing attack on Britain's National Health Service. As I never read the book, and just drew what the author asked me to, I'm now a little nervous, especially as I'm reaching that time in life when things start to conk out. He asked me how I would like to named in the credits page, and I said 'Anonymous!'
