Description One cool mother fuckin' kid. REAL TALK.

I have this obsession with Dave.

Ilu Strider.

I don't really like how this picture turned out but I suppose that's a part of learning. Constructive criticism quite welcome.

Done in SAI took me like..4 hours?(i suck)

I think that even though you haven't really done a lot of art in a while you've still got that talent. It makes me happy to see you doing pictures again. If this isn't the way you want it to look, you're right, it's still a learning experience and it still looks pretty damn cool. <3

Love the colors and the way his hair just swishes around like that.

My real nitpick would be the shading. I would suggest shading with a sharp-edged brush instead of a fuzzy one. It looks like you've got all the shadows where they need to be, and so on, but with them being fuzzy edged, they tend to lose their impact.

I'm incredibly unhappy with the shading, I'll definitely try your advice. I've had some difficulty blending so I end up softening the brush. I'll try and find a method for a sharper one.

I greatly appreciate your advice, thank you so much!

You're welcome.

And yeah, shading can be an interesting experience sometimes. I don't think you have to worry too much about making the shading look too painterly - the real issue is just the contrast between shading and highlight, and getting that to stand out enough. That's where a sharp edge can come in handy.

Oh, and for various shading effects, try different opacity settings. That is really helpful if you're using a sharper edged brush, because it'll make blending colors easier.
