Description So, this was my first commission, and it took entirely too long. This image really challenged me. This is a drawing of 's Bleach fan-character using a fairly complicated attack. Not being very familiar with Bleach, i had to do a lot of research.

he wanted the Shikai to appear as though blades were materializing from mid air, as is from the beneath the surface of the water. I'm pretty pleased with the effect.

Needless to say, it took a while, and I did a bunch of sketches to get myself satisfied on a pose... but was definitely trying too hard, and wasn't letting my hand have fun.

Hope you like is Zameric!

This is for use of Zameric only.

d'oh.

Cross hatching is such an energetic way to shade. I love it!

Dude I would not beat yourself up over this. Your perspective's always blow me away, and knowing about Bleach, I can definitely see this as an action scene. Gives the character personality

Oh my gosh, I had no idea the viewing perspective would look like this. I had thought in my head that it was probably going to be a simpler side view. But I really love how this turned out, you did an amazing job!

I actually haven't imagined the attack with the little mist/smoke trails, but I quite like that effect.

In your style, my character looks like the love child of Jigen and Goemon from Lupin III. xD

A small side note, this is actually his shikai, not his bankai. If anyone is interested, I uploaded a profile of his zanpakuto a while ago.

Oh, that was also part of the reason it took so long. I'm not really one for static poses... and I was going way overboard on the perspective for a while, and it got frustrating. xD

Ah, ok, I'll fix that. It would supposed to look like the surface of the water with some creative interpretation. xD

Like he swings the sword, it leaves a barrier, out of which the blades erupt.

But anyway, glad you like it!

Great use of perspective. The fact that it's skewed really pulls off a sense of action and makes the piece dynamic. You've definitely captured the smoke well, and your attention to detail such as the blade striking the ground is very effective. Marvelous job with the clothing folds as well! You work well with a pencil.

Out of curiosity, did the person who commissioned this request a pencil drawing?

Yes he did. I did a LOT of those in highschool, but haven't done full pencil drawings for a long time, and at first hated doing it for this, since the details I thought would be a huge challenge to render correctly with just one shade. But I'm pleased.

I kept trying to draw a far too extreme proportional skew, but after many sketches got what I wanted. I'm considering uploading some of those in process sketches.

That would be nice! It's always nice to see the process you go through, it helps to see where you start from.

I always intend to, since a lot of people think I always draw what I intend on the first try.
