Description

Database Entry – Khan, Ken / Monkey Khan
Birth Year: 1982
Affiliation: Free People
Occupation: Leader of the Freedom Alliance
Threat Level: High Risk - Do Not Engage - Observe at own risk

Ken Khan, also known as Monkey Khan, is a newcomer into the ever-changing landscape of the Dragon Kingdom Region. He is the leader of the Freedom Alliance - a coalition of Free People freedom fighters who are opposed to the Iron Dominion, a subsidiary to the Eggman Empire. They seem to have no quarrels with the Four Houses, though they will continue to remain under our observation.

From what we understand, Khan is a biologically 27-year-old cyborg Mobian, augmented with leftover cybernetics sourced from the now-extinct Dark Legion, who was previously sealed away in cryogenic storage as a rejected project of the Eggman Empire. He was found and released from cryostasis by the Knothole Freedom Fighter leaders, Sonic Pericade and Princess Sally Acorn, in 2007. He is an ally of the Knothole Freedom Fighters and Royal Underground, the joint forces behind the resistance movement within the Acorn-Mobian Realms.

Records indicate Khan was born in 1982 in a Free People settlement in Northamer known as Leung West, located in the South East of the continent somewhere between the major cities of Mobotropolis and Cealia. Intel suggests had a semi-comfortable childhood growing up in the Acorn-Mobian Realms during the Great War period as a Northamer-Born Free Folk son of migrant parents. From what we know of his existence around 1997 was an average Year 9 student at the local high school, he speaks Free People Lingua as a second language with Acorn-Overland Common being his primary language.

Following the deposition of the House of Acorn by the Eggman Empire, the continent and most of the Acorn-Mobian Realms were subsequently conquered by imperial forces. Leung West was no exception. The township was invaded by the Eggman Empire. He and many of his classmates, friends and neighbours were rounded up by the Eggman Empire and whoever wasn’t roboticized, was used as experiments by the Eggman Emperor. [See Incident Report]

OH MY AURORA! I WISH I DIDN’T OPEN THAT REPORT - WHAT THE FUCK! - EBS

E, I warned you when opening the file for this individual that there are some truly horrific findings attached to this file. I told you not to open the incident report if you’re so easily horrified. I specifically said the Eggman Emperor keeps finding new lows in the race to the bottom with regards to his inhumanity. I hope you will listen the next time I advise you not to look at something for your own good. - CV

Following his return to the world, Khan arrived here from Northamer a wandering migrant travelling to his ancestral homeland. After some scuffles with regional warlords, imperial and former Yagyu Clan or otherwise, he founded the Freedom Alliance to fight against the Imperial-Backed Iron Dominion and any enemies within the region who actively attack the Free People.

It is believed that by taking on the Empress of the East, the Iron Queen Regina Ferrum, and weakening her forces and liberating the Dragon Kingdom Region, it will help with the larger freedom movement across Mobius. I suppose by helping overthrow the Eggman Empire to place the House of Acorn back on the throne and consequently bringing peace to Mobius would help get him some closure. Use the powers that monster gave him to defeat the man who killed all his family, friends and neighbours who made him a cyborg against his will and all… Man, I kinda feel bad for the lad. Sure, my family, friends and community was wiped out the face of the earth by the Empire, but at least I didn’t get subjected to such cruel experiments and became a cyborg against my will. I’m just a Shinobi now. I guess it puts it into perspective how bad it could have been I suppose… I think I need to sit down for a while. - EBS

From most accounts of his character, Khan is quite the lively and jovial character and a gold-hearted being, despite what has happened to him. He has built quite the rapport with the Free People in the time he has been in the region. He is also noted to be somewhat hot-headed and tends to act without thinking.

Some within the Free People also seem to believe his arrival correlates to old legends about a Golden Lotus King coming to save them when their realm is in the most peril. Our clan may need to keep an eye on that in case the Free People happen start a sovereignty movement around such legends and prophecies - TM

We do not recommend engaging with this target given his augmented abilities as well as for the sake of preserving his ‘live and let live’ attitude toward the Four Houses. Observe at your own risk.

I drew Khan years earlier for another image, even made a sketch on paper forever ago for him which might end up in the sketch pile somewhere, but never really got around to doing a character profile for him till now. Maybe I intended to save him for when he would become revelant in Caught In The Storm since he is the secondary protagonist, but- beats me as to why tbh

So when interpreting the Dragon Kingdom into the little fanverse we got going on here, Monkey Khan is in some ways similar, some ways different to canon. I do refer to him a lot by his first name, Ken, so don't be alarmed if I forget to refer to him as Monkey Khan aside from in the title so you know which character from Archie Sonic this is - who am I kidding, he's pretty recognisable. Not like an unknown but definitely known enough around the fandom. Mostly for being Sally's rebound boyfriend, but I suppose it kinda counts toward having some recognition in a way.

Speaking of Khanally. That is not happening to say the least. Not because I am Sonally shipper and all, but mostly for some common sense in play here. With actually giving him a fanon age within the fanverse here, he's literally bioligically 10 years her senior now. Gives the ick ya know. Yeah nah, that ship is absolutely sunk and dead on the seafloor no matter what happens folks. The only age gap around in these parts is the one between two consenting full grown adult Mobians in a consent-filled arranged marriage / marriage of conveniance for their own reasons, but also because the succession within the Raiju Clan is fucked up and they got stuck with the unfortunate duty of having to fix it, but it is not going well for them at all. A lot of things within the Raiju Clan are kinda fucked up at this point in time to be fair, especially if you read Akira's entire biography of misery, but that's beside the point.

So Ken still gets released by Sonic and Sally, he still parts ways and ends up in the Dragon Kingdom. He still befriends Chi Mei and Fang and all, but now he's a Freedom Fighter who is the Dragon Kingdom's Sonic to the Iron Queen's Eggman and has a whole freedom fighting movement going on in the region. Help take out the Iron Queen over there to help get back at the Eggman over in Northamer. He has a rather live and let live attitude toward the Four Houses, he also hates dealing with rogue Yagyu mercinaries just like them.

He also accidently and inadvertantly causes a seperate movement of Free People to start up who don't share his ideals of live and let live with regards to the Four Houses to take up arms and actively antagonise the Four Houses and also somewhat sabotage The Alliance by calling themselves The Rebellion. The Four Houses know that they aren't affiliated, but they also don't appreciate the added issues rogue Free People cause in the region when they got enough problems. They are actively fighting each other in a cernturies-long conflict in the shadows after all, in the background to the Empire-Resistance fight going on elsewhere.

How I approach his characterisation, Jacob Frye comes to mind. I honestly had the idea for Ken to be the sort of the Jacob Frye of this universe and generally a lot less serious in comparison to Guardian Sakai who is the first protagonist and is somewhat the inverse of him where Takara is dutiful, stern and serious, occasioning fun and witty. He still has his temper, something of an ego, somewhat reckless, overconfident, impulsive and definitely vengeful with regards to taking on the Empire. Though add to the mix a witty goofball who sometimes is mentally a decade younger than his physical age and is a bit of comic relief, but he will take things seriously when the situation calls for it. He also is unaware of the fallout some of his actions causes when he inadvently causes The Rebellion to come into existance which becomes the bane of his and his teammates existance to deal with. Oh and let's not forget PTSD from literally being made a cyborg against his will, literally being trapped in cryrostasis for a decade or so wandering the expanse within his own subconcious, but nobody said you'd be normal after such horrific shit happening. He is learning how to be himself again and is going to take down the Empire using those augments in his body so help him to give him closure so he can heal and move onward.

Needless to say the Shinobi agent reading into Ken's intel file needs a hard drink after reading the incident report, but Constant Vigil did warn her that it was truly some "dead dove, do not eat" material. I really gotta figure out how to draw Chamelions since she's the third primary protagonist in all this and I still haven't gotten around to revealing her character bio either.

Monkey Khan belongs to SEGA, Archie, the original creators, whomever he happens to belong to, this is just a fan-interpretation of the character.
