I cannot tell you how it started
Since I have no recollection of that event
All I could say is…

There was this little girl
That had sparkles of light in her hair
She sat there so quietly
Staring at passer bys
She would stare at their feet
Smile to herself and then…

She looked at me
I was busy dwelling in my own misery
I didn’t notice her…her smile
She approached me
I was reading a book
Don’t even remember what it was
Still…I was reading a book

She stared at me for a bit
She forced me to look at her
And then she climbed
And sat perfectly on my lap

We were sitting in a big white room
There were some people present
They smiled at us
A stranger even asked if that little girl…
Was mine!

We both smiled
She played with my hair
While I tried my best to read the book
She cuddled and just stared at me
I had to look at her
Those beautiful eyes
Such innocent eyes
She asked me to tell her a story

I just froze!
Tell a story to a child
Sitting in this big white room
Waiting for a sign of life!
She wiggled in my lap waiting

I decided to try
Little girls deserve to listen to…
A fairy tale…
A story that gives them lovely dreams
Protects them in a little bubble
So I said

“Once upon a time, there was a prince, who ruled the underworld, he dreamt of finding his true love and he searched the lands. One day he saw Lady Gwen and instantly fell in love with her. He approached her and she fell in love with him as well. He asked her to join him in the underworld, but she asked him to find out what she truly wanted and then she would join him. The prince searched…and searched…and searched, he came back after 10 years holding a necklace that was made from the tears of the moon. Lady Gwen smiled but said that it wasn’t what she wanted, so the Prince searched…and searched…and searched, another 10 years had passed. The Prince came back carrying earrings that were made from the heart of the sea. Lady Gwen smiled and said that it wasn’t what she had asked for, so the Prince searched…and searched…and searched, another 10 years had passed. The Prince returned carrying a ring that was made from the jewel of the sun. Lady Gwen smiled and said that it wasn’t what she asked for, so the Prince searched…and searched…and searched, another 10 years had passed. The Prince came back and said three words to lady Gwen…he said “I love you”…Lady Gwen felt so happy for he had finally found out what she wanted after all, she cried though because she was only human and as the Prince was searching she was getting old and was about to die. Lady Gwen died after kissing her prince, and so the Prince cursed the lands and cursed her soul, for she would never join him in the underworld unless true love is found…only true love can save her soul so that they would be together in the underworld…and live happily ever after…”

The little girl stared at me
I felt like I had crushed her dreams
I couldn’t fool her with happily ever after
I had been emotionless
I had been simply…me

She smiled at me…she even laughed
She hugged me
Climbed down
I held her hand
She just giggled and walked away

I felt my lungs collapsing
Screaming for air
Those who heard the story
Eyed me and whispered cruel…
Just cruel comments

Had I destroyed a little girl’s fairy tale?
Had I relived one of my memories?
Projected them into her little eyes?
I would never know…
For she ran away giggling

I walked out
Desperate for some fresh air
Desperate for colors
I stood silently…
In front of that big white room

The little girl walked out
Accompanied by her mother
She approached me once again
She hugged me…
Then said

“Good bye Lady Gwen…”
