Description This one started off as one thing and ended up another. Wanted to have a go at creating realistic water. Not quite sure about the whole picture and I can't quite put my finger on it. I can't decide if it's too much of the background or if it's the roses that are putting me off. Still, I think I need a break from this one. Maybe other people's comments might help me work out the kinks.

** Edited 6/3/07 - Toned down the roses and the background a little. I think I'm happier with it now Thanks everyone for your input

What a wonderful composition. I think it's the pink in the roses that is a bit over-powering, but the overall vision is splendid! Maybe if you were to reduce the saturation on the roses..

lol, sorry for the multiple comments... I was reading over a few suggestions for the background, and I think what might help a little may be the use of a blur on the greenery (as has already been mentioned) in addition to perhaps desaturating it a little. It is a gorgeous background that works beautifully with the pic, but I think perhaps that the colours are a little too vibrant. You might blur the whole green backdrop but put the desaturation on a separate adjustment layer and then mask it with a slight gradient so that it mutes the color of the garden in the front/bottom more than the trees in the back. Of course, that might not be what it needs at all... lol. I think I got a little too caught up in that...

Beautiful! I love how serene this one is, also... You do a really awesome job working with reflections and water ripples. The reflections don't look easy to do at this kind of an angle, especially when shes reaching out over the water, but you've pulled it off well!

LynTaylor In reply to sylverwolffe [2007-02-19 02:00:50 +0000 UTC]

It was definitely tricky, as the reflection would have been from the underside. I had a hard time with the arm that touches the water. I pretty much came to the conclusion, 'If in doubt BLUR!' Thanks so much

Absolutley amazing picture. As for the background issue, I think all the green really contrasts with the gray stones. The bunch of pink roses on the left also contrast with all the green and gray. Nevertheless, it is an amazing picture and I don't think you should change it.

Moose-Stock [2007-02-01 13:40:14 +0000 UTC]

This is very beautifully done! Thank you for using my stock for the background. All the elements work so well together and it has such a soft and serene feel to it. The only thing about it that bothers me is how vivid the roses are - they stand out so much that they draw attention away from the girl. I love the way you did the water.
This is possibly the best manipulation my stock has been used in and I am proud to add it to my favorites gallery

Oooh, this is so lovely. You did a great job with the water, especially the girl's reflection. It looks faboo. I can't really see a whole lot in this that throws me off, though. I guess there's a bit of a distinct break between the foreground (the girl, the water, the stairs, and the wall) and the background (the forest), but I'm not exactly sure how to fix it. Maybe desaturate the background just a tad?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LynTaylor In reply to doranostock [2007-01-31 02:44:25 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much. Yes the more I look at it I do think it is the background. I might try bluring it a bit more to get a bit more depth of field. Maybe even desaturating it a bit, as you say, could work too. Cheers!

PS - Maybe blurr the background foliage a little bit, and run a light texture over the whole thing? Might give it a little perspective. It looks a tiny bit flat.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LynTaylor In reply to Renilicious [2007-01-25 07:31:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I was actually thinking about adding texture to this one. I'm not really sure how to use it, and use it well, IYKWIM. It's a bit scary for me - sad but true I'm not sure what I'd be attempting to achieve by adding it. I wish there was a blog/tutorial on the intricacies of using textures. I might give the background blur a go and see what that does. Thanks, once again, for your helpful comments
