One of the things that stuck out to me about Brave was the fact that it was about a daughter and her relationship with her mother, which is something that one doesn't see very often in mainstream entertainment and especially in children's movies and Disney. If it's about intergenerational issues or family conflict, it's almost always about either a son or a daughter and their relationship with their father. Mom is either not shown or outright dead. It was nice to see a film with two well developed female characters who faced their demons and relationship problems together and had character arcs as a result.
