Description Now out at Amazon!

My book "How to make Clothing for Poser: A Step by Step Guide"  is now up at Amazon. It is available in kindle and in paperback format.

I wanted to finally answer the question that people have been asking me for years. "How do I make clothing for Poser?"  and 275 pages later here it is.  This isn't everything by any means, but its most of everything you need to know, all laid out step by step in an actual project creation from start to finish.

I started with a sketch of an outfit and then worked through each stage of development from modeling, all the way to quality control, and fixing and finally promotional art and packaging.   Some sections were done twice in different programs to show options in workflow.

Some of the questions people have asked me about this book -

What version of Poser does this work with?  Everything from poser 4 to poser 10 and I'm going to guess the upcoming poser 11 as well.

I don't use poser, I use DAZ Studio, will this book help me?  You betcha.  You can follow along the project all the way up to the section on rigging.  At this point you jump over to DAZ studio and rig it there.  Everything else is pretty much the same as far as the tools and process go.

Will this help me learn about making clothes for other programs?  Probably.  The sections on modeling, uvmapping and texturing are certainly universal.  Texturing clothing for Poser, videogames, or secondlife is pretty much all the same.  Once you master coloring inside the lines you are halfway there

What programs do I need?  I did my best to keep the workflow as universal as possible. Although I used Cinema 4d for modeling, UVlayout for uvmapping, and Photoshop for texturing,  you can use almost any other comparable programs.  One of my beta readers followed along with Blender, UV Mapper Pro and Paintshop Pro and had no trouble.

Is there a kindle version?  Yes there is.  I'd really suggest reading it on a laptop or ipad though, there are a lot of pictures and on my kindle they are itsy bitsy.   If you do buy the paperback version I have set up the 'matchbooks' thing on Amazon so you can get the kindle version for a reduced price.

Who is your publisher and book designer?  That would be me. Yes, I made this book from end to end myself.  I took screenshots as I was working in various programs and edited them in Photoshop. The book itself was written in the great free program OpenOffice and finally the book was laid out in Adobe's Indesign.  I did however get professional editors, beta readers and technical editors to go over the book, to spare you all my cruelty to punctuation.

I hope you all like my book, and feel free to ask me questions.

DGtram

I'm going to be going round to the various poser stores tonight to see which ones would be interested in carrying the pdf and epub versions.  The paper copy is 6 inches by nine and about 3/4 of an inch thick.  I have my proof copy next to my desk and I keep staring at it in astonishment *lol*  So its a bit on the awkward side, about 2 inches bigger each way than a regular paperback novel, but still better than a full size hardcover.

I'll be certain to post again when I know where else it will be sold. the current possibilities are Renderosity, Runtime DNA and HiveWire 3d.  I'm not sure DAZ would be interested in a Poser book.

Very interesting!
Is there any chance for a PDF-version? I don't use Kindle, and a paperback would be a bit 'clunky' to drag around
