Bacon's gambling attitude was helped by his daily "attitude adjustments" fueled by alcohol, or so I've heard. 
BTW, who is the subject of the portrait?

Bacon said that drinking loosened him, but that if he got too drunk it would be counterproductive as he would end up taking too many chances. His famous work "Three Studies for a Crucifixion" was made after a two day bender.
I don't know who the subject of the portrait is, it was completely improvised.

And me this painting reminds of Francis Bacon, another amazing artist... Egon Shiele is one that was my favourite one for some time... and Edvard Munch is also amazing, he is like from a different world
