Description "It seems to me there's so much more to the world than the average eye is allowed to see. I believe, if you look hard, there are more wonders in this universe than you could ever have dreamt of."

"You don't have to tell me."

~Vincent & The Doctor

Hey!

This particular drawing is for the "The doctor who tumblr asked for my autograph" event on (you guessed it) Tumblr. This is the finished image without the writing that I had added in for the event.

I have a very long description here, because this piece of fan art was made specifically for the autograph event, because 1) I really didn't have very good fan art, and 2) the episode that this was based off of is not only my favorite, it's very important to me. It was the episode that first got me interested in watching Doctor Who in the first place. It completely changed my life.

Ever sense I was a little girl answering every, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" question with, "An Artist!", I had always looked up to the master painters that I learned about in the art books my grandmother would get for me. When I first laid eyes on Vincent Van Gogh's work, I instantly fell in love. I couldn't tell you what it was that made me love his work, 'cause I was only about maybe four years old, all I knew was that I loved it, and I loved him. As I grew older, I began to idealize his work. I loved the movement and the kinetic charm of his brush strokes. I loved how he put a little bit of life in each painting. I loved how detailed and lifelike his sketches were. I looked at his work and I felt like I was there, not because of it's realistic quality, but because of the amount of life and energy put into each painting. I cried, I laughed, I felt the warmth and the cold, I even felt the emptiness while looking at his paintings. I just loved everything about him. He's my inspiration, my muse. He made me strive to never give up on my dream to become an artist, even when everyone else told me that art was useless or didn't have a part in the world. He's not only my favorite artist, he's the beautiful person I wish to become one day. I just cannot contain my love for this beautiful man.

So when I had seen gifs of the episode on Tumblr, particularly the part where the curator tells the Doctor where Vincent rates as an artist and Van Gogh is crying, I knew I had to see the series. I watched all the episodes starting from the ninth Doctor, in order to get to the episode I was craving to see. However I soon forgot about that particular episode when I got into the Doctor Who series. I realized how much I loved it. The series blew my mind and I couldn't stop at just one. It really changed my perspective of things around me. It taught me how precious my own time is (just because the Doctor has all the time in the world doesn't mean I do). And I just can't express the love I have for this show and the wonderful people who are involved with it.

When I did finally watch the "Vincent and the Doctor" episode, I cried. It was beautifully done, and I wouldn't have changed it in anyway because it was just so completely raw and open about the emotional tension! Like I knew how Van Gogh felt and why. I just felt so much more connected to Doctor Who then I had ever been before. It just made me love the series even more.

I should probably stop rambling now. I'm just really excited about this.

Overall I like how this came out, though I wish I could've done more with the shading. I want to try a new shading technique, but that'll have to wait. I hope you guys like it!

I really loved that episode too. I'm not terribly familiar with Vincent van Gogh, but I still managed to feel strongly for him, and That One Part was very tear-jerking indeed. I really like this, good job.
