is this turned into an animation? Or is it just a still image? I'm kind of interested since I started maya recently and I'm psyched to see what's behind the making of fully rendered 3D art.

This image itself was produced to be a still image, but I could put more work into a rig for both of the characters and build a surrounding environment to make an animated short if I had the time or will x)

Oh okay. I love the different shading techniques you got with the different objects. What exactly do you use for the glass and liquid effects?

A majority of the materials in the scene are blinns textured in different ways.

The glass is actually a hypershade recipe that involves connecting the facing ration of a sample info node into ramps which are then connected into the transparency and reflected colour, then you up the reflection index, basically put.

This is a very basic interpretation of the recipe. [link]

THe liquids inside the heads are basically the same recipe but with the colour of their reflected colour changed, the splash is actually alpha punched poly planes with blinns on them.

excuse me if i sound rude. But i would like to make some comments. The work looks absolute great . but hitting heavy robots with a keyboard is i think a bad idea. by the looks how high the camera is.. about 4 meters above ground level the robot flies 5 meters plus high.. i think the males is using something heavier than a keyboard to do so.. maybe a lead pipe??
