.:Nekuta:.

- Nekuta are a CLOSED SPECIES -

BASIC INFORMATION
Nekuta are a reptile-like marsupial creature found in rainforests and jungles (yes they're different things). They are also commonly found as house pets. They're mostly active during the day. Nekuta skin is silky with fur only on their cheeks, top of their heads, necks, and butts. They do not need lots of fur because of the climate/area they live in. The fur on their necks is just to provide extra protection during fights. Their skin and fur is oily and allows rain drops to roll right off of them. They often swim in small pools of water collected on the floors of the jungle/rainforest. The fur on their butts is really only useful for the females. It is used to cover up the entrance to their pouch which helps to protect their babies. It is also used to to keep rain water out of the pouch during a downpour. Nekuta are excellent climbers. They have small grippy hand like paws that are built to climb up the huge forest trees. The Nekuta lifespan is normally 128 years. Some are known to live longer. They can start breeding at around 18 years and from then on can have up to 2 babies every 8 years. At age 100 they are unable to continue producing offspring. They are normally known to live alone in little families. Families consist of a pair, which mate for life, and their babies. Once the young reach 6 months they have all their fur and can hear and see so they do not need to be in the pouch any longer. At age 7 they are able to move on and fend for themselves. 7 year old Nekuta normally leave and live on their own until they are 10. Once they're 10 they search for a partner. Males will mark their territory so that a female will know when she is around a male. The male must impress the female and if impressed she will stay with him. The male is the hunter of the family and goes out to get the food while the female prepares a canopy house like area where they will sleep and eat.

DIET
Nekuta are omnivores meaning they eat both meat and vegetables/fruits. Nekuta love juicy fruits especially mangos and oranges. Nekuta are not picky and eat almost anything. They really enjoy: Bananas, avocados, figs, grapefruits, sugar cane, beetles, flies, larvae, small fish, ect. The male Nekuta is the gatherer and he goes out and finds food. The male hopefully finds a surplus that can last the family a week. Nekuta ages 0-6 months rely on their mothers milk and do not start eating solid foods until around the end of 6 months when they leave the pouch.

BREEDING
Nekuta start their breeding cycles at age 18, after they have lived with their partner for 8 years. Nekuta are able to have up to 2 babies in the pouch at once. It is very very rare for a Nekuta to conceive more than 2. If they do happen to conceive more than 2 they will choose the two healthiest and biggest looking babies to keep in the pouch and the male will take the remaining babies off of his territory and leave them there where they will inevitably die. Sometimes a female Nekuta, who either does not currently have any in her pouch or is single and will never have her own, will pass by and adopt the abandoned babies - at age 18 female Nekutas are able to produce milk until age 100 whether they have offspring or not. Nekuta are able to produce offspring every 8 years.

YOUNGER AGES
This section is on Nekuta life from 0-18. Nekuta are conceived and grow in the safety of their mothers pouch. Here they continue to grow and feed on their mother milk until they are 6 months. At 6 months they are able to eat solid foods and have all the necessary adaptations to living outside of the pouch. The mother and father will take care of them until age 7. 6 months - 2 years : this time frame is where the offspring of this season will just play and be social with their family they will also grow significantly during this time. 2 years - 7 years : during this time the male kid(s) will help his father. He will learn the essential life tactics such as gathering food, fighting other males who come into his territory, and the best areas to settle down. The female kid(s) will help their mother. She will be taught the good qualities to look for in a mate and the proper place and way to set up their tree top sleeping and eating area. At age 7 the parents will quite forcefully push their children out into the world. The parents will not allow their children to come near the territory until they are 18. So the 7 year old Nekuta are on their own. They will split up and the males will start to find their own territories while the females will wander around for the 3 years until they are ready to settle down. At age 10 the males start to add very strong scented markers on their territories to attract females. The females will go to the strongest smelling areas. The female will look for a bigger stronger built male. They also look for attractive patterns and colors. The males will puff out their manes and try to appear as big and flashy as they can. If the female is impressed she will climb a tree in his territory and begin to build their platform. If the female is unimpressed she will leave. The partners will continue living alone together until they mate and start a family.

MALES
Male Nekuta are the warriors and gatherers. They claim a territory by marking it with their scent. Males are approximately 15-20 inches tall and do not have pouches. Males are a lot stronger than females and their manes tend to be slightly fuller. The tail fluff on males is generally thinner and there is much less of it because it is useless to them.

FEMALES
Female Nekuta are the mothers and builders. The females make the territory into more of a home like place. They set up a tree top nest area where the family will sleep and eat. They're also known to decorate the area with tropical flowers and brightly colored objects and stones. The females are approximately 15 inches tall and have pouches. Females are a lot more agile than males and can climb up trees with much more ease. They have thick tail fluff used to cover up and protect the pouch.

ACCESSORIES
Accessories come in a huge variety. Pet Nekuta's are amazing at shows. Owners will spiff up their pets and enter them in shows. In the wild females can craft their own small accessories that they normally give to their daughters or parents as gifts. But for shows, owners will doll up their Nekuta with colorful bows, earings, scarves, ect. If you want to win you have to have a beautiful glossy mane, shiny clean skin and lots of accessories to wow the judges.

OTHER
Nekuta's have phenomenal hearing which comes in handy when trying to find small insects and to hear predators from far away. Nekuta have grippy hand like paws which make climbing trees easy. This is very helpful when running from predators. Nekuta are active during the day and sleep at night. They normally have very good vision but do not have a very great sense of smell. Nekuta mate for life and if their partner dies young they will not mate again. They will live in the territory alone and continue on with their lives. Around age 18 Nekuta can go back and visit their parents and bring gifts of food and/or accessories they crafted. Nekuta are very family oriented and often visit their parents once they have moved out on their own. Nekuta also love to swim and play in the water. They are not very good swimmers though which is why they prefer shallow puddles.

If a Nekuta has a long mane can it have little braids in it? Not like the braided mane but just more as an accessory for like a drawing or something? Just small little braids like people do in horse manes & tails?
