Well i know that i promised you a critique on one of your Fractal Faces, so here it is.
First of all I am convinced that adding Image Capture to the UF toolbox is the greatest thing to happen to UF since Banana Smoothie was invented.
Your work captures both the soul of the model (whether 'evilly gothic', 'warrior' or, in this particular instance just 'play-with-your-mind-whimsical'. i'm convinced that Queen Bee belongs in a Lewis Caroll story. She looks eagerly and intensely desirous of stinging the heck out of anyone who crosses her. The foliage surrounding her reminds me that this is Mother Nature talking to us.
Overall, my most favorite of all your faces. This one gets my vote!

Thank you for the glorious critique!!! As with most of my works, this one started out with something else in mind, but when the antenna popped out when I was trying to get some backround to show... Well you can see the results, one queen bee!!!!

I used to add transparent fractals to photo stock faces. It was fun. Your style is very different to what I did.

These are created entirely inside of UF allowing the photo to actually interact with the fractals directly! I used to do the overlay style also, but it had the tendency to loose the effect of the true fractal......

Ah! Great. I can't use UF.
This is excellent work.

Judging from your gallery, that is a huge compliment!!!! Thank you very much!!!! Why can't you use UF???? Are you on Linux???

winklepickers In reply to M2e-Fx [2010-01-27 16:49:21 +0000 UTC]

No, I have Windows on a Mac. I have a free trail of UF in the computer but I couldn't manage to learn how to use it. I've used Apo for a few years but it has got complicated now and I haven't enough patience with it. You must know that renders are very long.
I find Photoshop much more fun. I can get a result much quicker. Apo is for the young. I'm 69 now and .... bof!

I've never tried Apo nor can I do the kind of fractals that I prefer on it as far as I can tell... I'm just now getting started on PSE mostly as a tool for some of the fractal works. I mostly use Photo Filtre, a freeware photo editor I found ages ago that has some features that leave the expensive ones behind!!! Well, I'm not that far behind you in age by the way....

When I came here to dA, I just made some digital paintings of a very simple style. Trees, green countryside, water. I wasn't very good.
A friend here introduced me to Apophysis and I learned how to use it a bit, but I mainly used scripts and never got round to creating them from nothing. I started to manipulate transparent .pngs. and I still do by making different layers. I did them in Paint.NET, then PSP, and then I learned how to use Photoshop to create images, which is really nicer. I didn't buy any of them I must say.
PSP is a reasonable price but Photoshop is much too expensive. I should have learned the GIMP. I did download it once but I was new to digital programmes and didn't know what to do with it. I found that all my pictures opened in the GIMP and it really put me off.
I had PhotoFiltre a few months ago but I didn't use it.

Last year I animated a club with *Xantipa2 for manipulations. ~FractalManipulations . The idea came from another friend !chaotic-mimustock
We ran it for six months, then it got too difficult. When we stopped, last June, #FracMan started.

As for age... well shall we say that we are no longer young?

If you want your photos to open with a specific program in windows, right click on it and select "open with"... Click on "choose program".... Highlight the program you wish to have it always open with and check the box at the bottom of the window that says "always use the selected program to open this kind of file".... Click the OK button and you are done!!!! This holds true with ANY file on your system and you can change them at will!!!! This is also useful for opening certain files with unknown extensions that you know could be opened with something you have... The worst that will happen is a message saying that you can't open it with that program!!!!

Photo Filtre has the unique ability to actually show you the EXACT dimensions of your selection box and your cursors location.... Perfect for exact cuts or copies in identical locations!!!! It also has a batch proscessor for changing groups of pictures in just a few clicks!!!!

Just to bang my own drum, The avatar for Fracman was made from one of my works in this series.....

We are no longer young... just experienced and wise!!!!

Thanks for the advice.
I now have a Mac but I use Windows on it on a virtual machine.
I think every one of us prefers one programme above another according to what we want to do.
That's logical.

Uncanny as ever Mark,
If you ever have an exhibition, I would love to be able to know how the people reacted to seeing all of these in one place at one time!

I truly appreciate the compliment!!!! I think that a lot of people get freaked out about my works because it isn't what they expect for fractals.... I suppose that is part of thier charm and I don't have any intention of changing to the same ol' stuff everyone else does just to gain popularity....too boring!!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Leanndra51 In reply to M2e-Fx [2010-01-27 16:45:18 +0000 UTC]

You are very welcome. I think that is part of it, these aren't what one expects from fractals, but I think that is a good thing. Always strive to exceed the expectations of others.
(Oh, I should make that a tag line for myself.) It just came to me!

I think finding one's own "style" is important. I am still looking for mine. It seems to me that you have found yours.

M2e-Fx In reply to Leanndra51 [2010-01-27 18:15:11 +0000 UTC]

Good tag line!!!!
I get most of my "not to do's" and some inspirations from looking at other peoples galleries... The thing that I notice most is that almost all fractal artists work with abstracts...this leaves a wide open opportunity for surreal, sci-fi and fantasy, therefore, you have what I strive for!!! Try it, you may find another angle I haven't!!!!

Leanndra51 In reply to M2e-Fx [2010-01-28 00:40:19 +0000 UTC]

That is a very cool way to be inspired. I agree it does leave a lot of opportunity for people to choose from.
Personally, I just don't believe I am that creative and inventive.
I'm not putting myself down, but I feel it is an honest assessment of my "creativity". I do want my art to be different. I want people to notice it, not as one of hundreds, or thousands of images other people create, which also are beautiful, I just want mine to be more unusual. If you go through my gallery you will find that I have done some darker fractals. You don't hardly ever see them and I think they have a beauty all of their own; a dramatic flair that more bright and colorful fractals have. And I love the bright ones too.

It may sound strange, but I don't do my works to appeal to the viewers..... I do it to appeal to myself first, then I perfect the style to appeal to the people!!! Not everyone will like works they don't understand or expect, but those that do will always be loyal.... I myself see the potential in your art and think that all you need is focus and the correct "angle"... It's there, I have no doubt!!!!
