Why, hello there girls. It's been a while, hasn't it?
Well, for those that don't know... The publisher for Shadowgirls is going to be continuing the stories for the Girls of Innsmouth in the form of a series of young adult novels written by written by Mat Nastros. (Read about it here:
[link] ) This is generally pretty awesome. I always wanted to see the stories of the girls continue and I'm glad it's happening, even though it's in another format. But I thought I'd draw up a promo piece for it. Even though my art won't be used for it, I still wanted to draw something for it. Kind of like how Kevin Eastman still draws stuff for Ninja Turtles, even though he's not the artist on it anymore. Sort of a legacy thing. (They'll probably want to go for a more traditional illustrative style as opposed to my animation influenced style. And I'm cool with that.)
So yeah, it was kinda nice to draw Becka and the Destroyer again... And Merv.

I never did figure out where / when/ how Becka picked up Merv...

It never got canonized, but I think both me and Rodriguez had different ideas of how he would have fit in. I can't remember what he had in mind, but I remember I was thinking of Merv basically being a lost little deep one, who's parents were killed in the attack on the beach during the first season, and he was wandering around the coast like a lost stray until he was found and adopted by Becka and Lindsey. It was a story I had hoped we were going to get to eventually. Obviously that's non-canon now, as the new writer will have different directions and ideas to go with... But that was what I had in mind.
