Thank you for your nice comments. I used a pic of the band in a magazine. I was going to do all of them, but liked the one portrait so much that I stopped there. I had a quick google image search, but can't see the original pic. I think it was in teh Radio Times if that helps?

My grandparents were from Edinburgh and we visited a few years back (before babies). It's an amazing and beautiful place - a fabulous centre of culture and clearly inspiring for many creative people.
I'm currently working on Lady Gaga (a great face)and that's half imperial, quite like that scale.
Weather is suddenly warmer today - it's been bitterly cold - so fingers crossed for warmer days, gin and tonics and happy painting xxx

Nicely done! Very good control, and with watercolour that's not easy.

This is stunning! I am new to watercolors (started in Feburary) and I am always blown away by how great they are. Your work is an example of that! Great job!

I've commented before but this still amazes me, its what made me want to try watercolour portraits and it's still my favourite portrait. Really amazing. Could you tell me a bit more about what water colours you used, maybe a link and your brushes or techniques? especially for hair. lovelovelove this

ok. The brushes are Isabey - I find they are a bit more expensive, but they never lose their point and have a great firmness. I did nearly all the painting with one size 4.
The paints are Holbein watercolour - they type that you buy in tubes and then squeeze the paint into empty pans. These retain their moisture but of course you have the luxury of all the colours at your disposal and don't have to choose beforehand (as you would with tubes). I love them and wouldn't use any others.
The hair is a technique that I developed and teach regularly. You paint the hair as flat colour, then just as it's on the point of drying you scrape it off with an angled point (I just cut up old credit cards into quarters, then you can use the sharp or the blunt corner). Now this technique needs practice. You need thick and darkish paint (it won't really work with light or watery paint). If you scrape into it straight away you get a dark line, which can also be useful. But if you wait for it to lose it's gloss and go matt (but still be wet) and then scrape, you can remove nice almost white lines. Have a go!!

No problem, glad to help. If you can't afford the Holbein, Winsor & Newton pans would be my second choice - but make sure you get ARTISTS watercolour - the Cotman & Georgian ranges are students and pretty low quality.
