I am most astonished by the coins. How did you do them? Are they cleverly photoshopped? Particles? An insane vertex count? I don't see any clipping issues at all. I see some ambient occlusion between the girl and the tub, reflection of coins on the tub, so it can't be photoshopped, can it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

madaigual In reply to DazInABlender [2015-06-14 11:48:24 +0000 UTC]

No, no photoshopping... The coin, pearl and jewel (just 1 of each) are very very low-rez objects (short cylinder, sphere and tetrahedron) which I cloned to make 100s above the bath and then dropped them onto the main object.  In fact all of the treasure, including crowns, goblets, necklace, etc comes in at 14Mb (62K polygons) and the whole pic at 46Mb.....

Now to be brave of me and finally destroy the illusion.... When I made the coin (short cylinder) I capped the top of the cylinder but forgot cap the bottom. I didn't notice when I rendered it because of all the reflections but it really is obvious.... There are not solid coins , they are basically lids . Strangely  enough nobody's ever noticed (except me)

Ok, so it's like some of the things that I've seen in Blender tutorials, using animation for physics simulation. What software did you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

madaigual In reply to DazInABlender [2015-06-14 16:20:45 +0000 UTC]

Exactly Sir... animation for physics simulation! It took me a long time to discover that the best way to make things look like they've been dropped ....  Is to drop them (No brainer really!)

In Where's the money I dropped virtually eveything (table, chairs, cupboard, knives...), much faster than positioning it manually and best of all it's always correct.

I use Cinema 4D (V12) + Interposer ....   I think the latest version is V16 or 17 but I have no plans on making a blockbuster feature film so why bother upgrading!

You are awesome, my friend...
The composition, the pose, the idea and the textures are splendid. I can't imagine the time you've taken to fill up the bathtub.
And I suppose that she wouldn't be smiling in reality if she were in such a position, because of the weight of the coins, what do you think?
Anyway, it gorgeous

madaigual In reply to Phyl-CGI [2014-05-03 21:41:55 +0000 UTC]

I made a lightweight OBJ file to be a collider object and then I just dropped cloned treasure onto the collider like this . Then I baked the treasure as an object and put it back into the real V4/Bath scene . Making this lightweight object file allowed the PC to calculate everything much faster

I'm happy you like it Y-Phil, many thanks

This is fantastic! Great composition. Is all the treasure from a particular set or did you mix it up a bit? Would you mind telling us what you used?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

madaigual In reply to Silas3D [2014-05-02 09:15:20 +0000 UTC]

It's all an illusion ... The coins are just a single thin cylinder geometry - cloned 400 times and then dropped onto the bath/water plane/V4 collider objects (0% bounce), then I made a simple gem geometry, cloned and dropped that onto the coins, and a simple sphere for the pearls... you got it.... cloned and dropped onto the coins/gems, finally the crowns (old freebies from Sharecg) were dropped into place. Basically everything in the pic has been dropped using gravity/colliders... rather than me "positioning" objects, I let physics do it for me .  The pearl necklace/bracelet are 2 circular splines converted to dynamic hair and then used as a rail to clone the pearls

SEVEN! (eight with the pirate)

Honest, only seven pieces of treasure in the bath (and only 2 soldiers in this ).... Now if only I could do the same with money

phraught In reply to madaigual [2014-05-02 15:13:41 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... let's see:  coins, goblet, challis (well, two kinds of drinking thingies), crown, jewels, pearls, another crown... and the pirate.   Oh - and the sword?   Could it be eight pieces, nine with the pirate?  (Don't want to get into a sort of Spanish Inquisition...   even if they are pieces of eight).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

madaigual In reply to phraught [2014-05-02 15:20:02 +0000 UTC]

I didn't count the sword, it's not treasure! Ha-ha!!!! And only 1 crown actually IN the tub.

Crown+chalice+chalice+chalice+coin+gem+pearl = SEVEN

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

phraught In reply to madaigual [2014-05-02 16:06:31 +0000 UTC]

Seven it is - I thought I saw that third chalice behind the crown - and you're right of course about that second crown.

And of course, we all agree on the pirate...   Le rowr rowrl !

Off of work and I check DA and what do I find...

Wow - that's some treasure.   The booty ain't bad either.  Wait...   nevermind.

I love the perspective and the DOF...    Too bad about the lady in the portrait and her apparent neck injury - must have been a doosey.

And the pirate gal looks quite content and relaxed.   And why not...  she looks quite ready to defend herself.

Another great one - thanks!

As always, the "captain's cabin" is no more than an "L" shaped wall.
(It is touchingly kind of you phraught not to have mentioned the horrendous mistake I made in this one but didn't notice until after I rendered it)
