Thank you
Haven't looked at this in.....5 years (how time flies), sure I could re-do it a lot better now but.... Probably won't!

You're welcome. No worries about not redoing it, I'm sure you'll have plenty more interesting works of art to share in the future!

Hahah! I still love it though!!! It's a beautiful piece, the lighting is really just... great. I've been struggling with getting good lighting, any tips?

Β  Oh Nogitan you're asking me, a clueless idiot for tips... Very kind of you I see that you're using DAZ Studio, I use C4D which has completely different lighting with completely different names! So as much as I'd like to, I can be of little help to you

I generally use Global illumination (no lights whatsoever, just a picture of a lit environment, very real but no real shadows cast>Β no shadows, just dark blurs ) or just 1 light with Area shadows (slowest/best) or Shadow maps (fastest/good)... I looked at your "Moxy/Desmo pics" and I can see that you've used ultra-sharp Raytraced shadows 100% dark, very rarely used because the resulting shadows are unnaturally too defined, there's no light dispersion. In your "Red Dress" pic I can see that you've used several lights, the shadows are still clean edged Raytraced ones but with reduced darkness (In all my 443 pics I've only used Raytraced light once for dramatic effect in conjunction with Global Illiumination and softer shadow map lighting)
I've just checked and I see that DAZ does indeed have a "Raytrace / Deep Shadow Map" option (why not do a test using Shadow Map), plus I believe DAZ is now using "iRay" (akin to C4Ds Global illumination). Does DAZ also have an Inverse Square option?Β  (Very important for indoor lighting, otherwise the intensity of the light never decreases)

Sorry I can't be of much help Β ... hopefully Poser, DAZ, MAX, Lightwave, C4D, 3DS, Blender, VRAY etc., etc., will eventually standardise lights so we can all pitch in together... I personally think it's a conspiracy to keep us divided Β

Anyway, just realised that you've only just joined So a super big and long may you render !!!

Global Illumination...From your description I am going to assume it is just the default lighting you get when you load up the program?

Area shadows...I looked it up on c4dCafe forums, and DAZ doesn't have those The best i can do is probably Deep Shadow Map and up the diffuse and lower the shadow intensity.. (Being new to this, i dont really know what all of these things do, but i saw someone mention "more diffuse" so i figured if I increase it, it should produce better results)

I would love to use Iray but apparently my computer doesn't want to, It supposedly comes with the newest update of DAZ but the option doesn't even show up on my computer... for Red Dress I tried using 3 lights, A distant light at about a 20degree angle from the camera, a spotlight from 45degrees and another spotlight 45degrees from the other side (if i remember correctly) I didn't like the lighting... since I'm new to this I didn't really know how to make it better

This mightΒ  sound dumb...but I'm not entirely sure how to do a test render. Unless of course you mean render it, and then tweak the things that dont look right, I can do that lol. The only thing is, I don't spend a lot of time on the computer (I'm sure I will now though) and I'm used to Blender's super fast rendering so i'm pretty impatient. If a photo takes too long I quit the render and say "I'll do it later" and never do.

Thank you for the welcome, I look forward to being here and having many great art pieces and yes, they're trying to keep the art community individualistic and selfish!!! hahaha

May the render be with you... and me... and whoever else wants to be 3D artists

Impatience!!! Live there, do that, only T-Shirt I ever wear!Β

By Global illumination I mean spherical HDR maps (great site ) that surround the scene supplying all the light info, so no extra lights (I think you Dazzers call it IDL).
Silly question Nogitan ...if you use Blender why downgrade to DAZ Studio??? I know a few Poser/Daz Deviants that are planning on upgrading to Blender, it has everything you need!
Plus, if you look at the really 3D renders on the workflow is invariably DAZ/Poser posing > Export OBJ >Β  ZBrush fine detailsΒ  > 3DS MAX rendering > Photoshop...Β  Far too much bother for me, but I do agree with the OBJ modelsΒ  (only thing I use!). Your best bet would be DAZ>OBJ>Blender!

the only thing is last time i tried to import a character into blender everything got messed up! The hair was like scaled to 5000% instead of 100%, the rig didn't let me pose her, her textures were messed up. That's why I stopped using blender, unless I'm sculpting. Thank you for the watch and all the advice, you've really been helpful D Β Β
