Description Aladar and his family, from Disney's "Dinosaur," one of my childhood fave films, along with "Treasure Planet."

I really adored this film when I was a kid, along with "The Emperor's New Groove," Tarzan," and "Atlantis." While little girls are into Disney princesses stuff, I'm into new Disney films with different genres. So yeah, I was a kid who's into action-adventure/sci-fi Disney films with no musicals, back in 2000's.

This film was actually a first computer-animated film for Disney, with live-action backgrounds, before "Chicken Little" was fully CGI-animated. So, in other words, it's a mixed-media movie, before TP. I know the computer texture wasn't perfect, but the character animation was well-animated with 2's per frame. I mean, hey; it was an early computer animation as a process.

So, why drawing this? The reason is I prefer this film, over this so-called Pixar movie, "Good Dinosaur." Now, I haven't watch it yet, but I am planning to. However, there's a mixed feeling for this new Pixar movie because people are going to "praise this film," while forgetting "Dinosaur." That happened how I felt for "Brave" because they would "praise it," over Brother Bear (also my fave film). I'm not trying to be reluctant, but sometimes praising over "awesome films" today over underdogs was just so annoying. I mean, I just felt like I'm in a small boat, while too many people have "similar opinions."

Now, before you guys are going to b*tch me to say "But this movie is AWFUL!1," while accusing it's a "knock-off" of "Land Before Time" AND proving me your "opinions are always right," I got to say something to you all:

 SHUT. THE. HELL. UP

It is a good movie, with strong moral and interesting storytelling, while it's one of Disney films that inspired me to write/develop my own story.

In fact, it was one of the matured Disney films with drama-elements for young adults, along with "Atlantis." I mean, it's about finding a better home from lamentations and feeling abandon, after Aladar and his family lost their island because of the meteor showers. It was a long trip in a hot desert to find the Nesting Grounds, but it's about hope and helping other people in a selfless way. Aladar, who's one of my fave Disney males (and voiced by the same guy who did Sitka 8D ), became a better Iggannadon because he cares about the elder dinosaurs, who are sadly mistreated by their leader, Kron (voiced by the same guy who did Sebastian ).

Originally, Aladar's name was going to be Noah, based on the story from Bible. Right now, when I looked back in this film, I could see Christianity/Jewish theme in this movie, besides Noah story;

1) Aladar represent as both David and Saint Michael, while Kron represent both King Saul and Lucifer.

2) There was a Good-Samaritan scene, about Aladar and the gang helping Bruton, who was wounded. They knew Bruton was Kron's "helper," but they knew he was hurt and don't deserve to be abandoned.

I know Disney don't use Christian themes anymore, but come on; Walt Disney did use Christian themes in the Classic films, especially "Sleeping Beauty."

Also, FYI (to those who are  die-hard Disney fans) ; "The Lion King" was a knock-off film because of being "copycat" from Tezuka's "White Lion." By all means, you should've judge TLK, too.  (Don't get me wrong, I like TLK film series, but the fan service was too much for me).

The music scores was very beautiful and fitting because of the theme and storyline. Do you know who composed "Dinosaur?" James Newton Howard. Yes, the "same guy" who did "Atlantis" and "Treasure Planet." I mean, it's part of inspiring music scores for Disney, along with Alan Menken's music works. If you haven't listen them, go and listen:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeqM7s…

I'll think about when I'll see "Good Dinosaur," even though I need some time. Sure, "Good Dinosaur" trailer seems pretty decent, but I always prefer "Dinosaur" over this film. What can I say? I like old-school, while I love the films from Disney's 2000's (The Experimental Era). Also, I like "Inside Out" better because I thought the storytelling was creative. I'm just saying.

Before you guys are going to "take my words as personal attack," here's a thing; I'm not trying to p*ss you off. I'm here to express my own thoughts. If my words "anger you," then here's a thing: pack your things and move on, because you're NOT going to change my mind.

Also, if you post offensive comments to take my words too seriously, and proving me how wrong I am... then your comments would lead to DRAMA. I kid you not. So don't let me scare you off with my temper, Capish?

Good, now I'm done. Enjoy.

*One more thing: As for the directors of this film... I know what "other" works they did, so you don't have to mention to me. If I knew already, I knew already.

Never thought of that parallel. Interesting observations, I thought the movie was okay, I think there are better Disney films out there, but this one was entertaining enough on it's own.

Well, I love this movie dearly - and it's one of my fave inspiring, childhood Disney films that I can remember with, along with "Treasure Planet," "Atlantis: The Lost Empire," and "Fantasia 2000."

Ah, the lesser known ones. Interesting.

Well, for "Fantasia 2000," it's not a lesser-known because it is a well-known Disney classic (while I don't like it when fans call it "underrated" ) since "Tarzan."

Sorry, I couldn't resist. But I'm just stating the points, that's all.

Here's some interesting connections to The Lion King. Max Casella who voiced Zini played Timon in the Broadway Musical of the film and the choir was done by Lebo M.

Lebo M. (who led the African vocals for The Lion King's score) also worked on Dinosaur's score along with James Newton Howard.

Nice painting!

The 1st Land Before Time is my go-to animated dino flick, but this one is good too; "Dinosaur" one of those movies that I happen to like, but the majority doesn't. BTW Aladar reminds me of Captain America, with his leadership skills, straightforwardness, and slight awkwardness with his lady (Neera).

Actually, Aladdar's character is more of a big brother figure to his foster family, while he became a better hero as a strong, protective dinosaur. That's all I can describe about.

I remember watching this when I was younger! Me and my brother would watch it together. Aaah the good old memories!

I wish this film got more recognition though. I mean I hear people complain how it is a really bad movie and I'm just sitting there going, "I didn't think it was bad...  ".
Then again, I feel that way for every film I've watched as a child so this isn't a rare occurrence. Still, I find this movie to be rather underrated, not as underrated as Brother Bear, but I do recommend people to see it once and come to their conclusion and thoughts of the film.

Madame-Kikue In reply to PikaAngel [2015-12-09 00:37:38 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, most awesome Disney films, like Dinosaur and Brother Bear, are underrated. But hey; I love Disney underrated films, 'cause they inspire me while I don't care what others think. Besides, I like Disney films with different genres, including sci-fi, than princesses stuff.

People can complain, but that doesn't mean their opinions are always right. So, in other words, it's their lost. 8P

Yep, this film should be in a re-release because the 3D was amazing. I know few people get tired of it seeing re-release classics in theaters, such as "Beauty and the Beast" or "Finding Nemo." But I like to see re-releases of Disney underdogs, like "Dinosaur" and "Treasure Planet," in the future. They deserve it because they would work in 3D.

Oh my Q! I haven't seen "Dinosaur" in ages I remember watching it when I was 9-10 yrs old except the plot is kind of a blur to me. I had no idea it had subtle Christian themes in the movie. I think the more obvious ones are Sleeping Beauty and The Hunchback of Notre Dame I definitely think it's an underrated film that needs acknowledgement. I've watched the trailer to "Good Dinosaur" and I thought it was decent but I want judge it until I watch the movie.

Anyways, I love your artwork !

Well, for Christian theme, I just guessed/analyzed when I looked back at this film. XD But those were the good guesses. Yeah, it's sadly underrated for now, but hey; I love Disney underrated films (like Tim Burton loves low-budget films).

I'm thinking of see "Good Dinosaur" this week, but going to watch "Krampus" first. XD

Oh my fucking go, Kikue, I love you so much right now. So many people forget Dinosaur itself, and for the longest time, that was my favorite film (still in my top 10). No matter what, it still gives me chills every time I watch it. It's such a gorgeous film and of course it has problems - I can't think of one dinosaur film that doesn't - but certainly underrated.

Now for your piece, this is a really pretty and well-put together piece. I love the glow of the asteroids and the gathering of the whole family. I would love to see a bit more! Your art is so amazing! (Especially with Aladar and Neera. When I was a kid, that was my ultimate OTP).
