Description Elsa Van Helsing from the new movie, "Frankenweenie."

Man, from the past couple of days.... I couldn't stop thinking about this character because of her design. But for now, even though I read her personality from the website... and there's no clips of her much yet, I'm thinking that she's becoming one of my fave Burtonized gals, along with Victoria and Lydia.

Huh, speaking of Lydia... Elsa's design, including her hair-style, does seems similar to Lydia Deetz's (either the live-action or the cartoon version), while she was voiced of Winona Ryder (I'm not really a super fan of her, but it's good to see her role again in another Burtonized film ). Overall, I love her hair style; weird, but Burtonistic.

Based on the character poster as a reference, but different expression. Will draw her dog on the next pic. Enjoy.

Oh, by the way.... did I mentioned that Elsa is Victor's "love interest" since Wikipedia said so? 8D

Hello Winona; it's wonderful to see you after 20 or so years of notoriety as the "girl who talked to ghosts. Β And what about your suicide in Portman's insane visions in Black Swan? Β That was trippy too. Β I did like her hairstyle and her subterfuge behind her uncle's back to help Victor. Β I don't know if she and Victor got together after the film's end, even though their dogs certainly like each other.

There is a hint that Elsa and Victor interact because they discussed each other from fence to fence.Β

A "Pyramus and Thisbe" romance, complete with talking through a "chink" in a "wall" between their fathers' properties.

Ever heard of "A Midsummer Night's Dream"? Β The tradesmen/clowns try to do the play, "Pyramus and Thisbe", justice as a tragedy, but it turns out to be so bad it's funny. Β The key scene the play is Nick Bottom (Pyraums) and Francis Flute (Thisbe) talking through a chink in the wall (played by friend Tom Snout) between their fathers' grounds.

Read some of the part from the play in school - didn't like it. I prefer "Twelfth Night" because the storyline and love triangle is way better.Β

For "Pyramus and Thisbe," I read it in Ovid's "Metamorphosis," while I saw the paraody from "The Simpsons."Β

"Twelfth Night" is pretty funny too and has better music too.

I just watched Frankenweenie for the first time, and I feel like not only is Elsa similar to Lydia, but to Sally from The Nightmare before Christmas, due to her relationship with her uncle being similar to that of Sally and Doctor Finkelstein.

Yep; now I can think what Elsa's and Sally's character similar because they both feel sympathy with Jack and Victor, while being raise by their pushy relative/parent/guardian.Β

[She was one of my favorite characters in the movie.Β  From what I remember after seeing the movie, though, she wasn't really Victor's love interest.Β  They didn't interact that much.]

I wonder if the appearance of Elsa Van Helsing was modeled after the appearance of Abby Sciuto from NCIS.

Nice drawing.

I do think Elsa's design is very cool (especially her hair), and I'm glad to see Winona Ryder working with Burton again. Though Elsa does remind me of Lydia as well...

Well done!

Elsa had her birthday on January 18 (which was Winona's actual birthday) and just like me.

Now, I found the movie very cute with decent characters. Yes, there are few flaws in this film, but it's technically not bad; it's a good film, though.

So, Elsa looks like Lydia, and Victor Frankienstein looks (and has the same name as) Victor Van Dort...is it me, or is Burton's originality running out?

LadyData In reply to GokuMartin [2012-10-15 18:20:14 +0000 UTC]

Who knows :shrugs Maybe it's both. I admit Tim Burton's movies have not been doing well for the past year ever since Alice and Wonderland according to movie critics. And I do admit it seems like Burton is running out of ideas because he's using old material from his previous movies and other movies that are not his like Dark Shadows for example.

I've read that Frankenweenie was #5 in the box office while Hotel Transylvania was #2.
