Song was named in honor of an old southern water tribe lullaby her mother sang to her as a baby and within the family. She grew up learning to water bend, learned healing under Katara while not perfecting it, and taught herself to make the now popular "Herbal Song" perfume in Republic City once she moved there to make a carrier for herself and sell her perfume. Upon arriving, she unknowingly became the targeted woman of the Triple Threat Triad's leader, Lightning Bolt Zolt upon seeing her bending prowess when she tried out for pro bending as a and other aspects of her. Over time and surveillance, she was secretly stalked by members of the Triple Threat Triad and pictures of her in her home were all given to Lightning Bolt Zolt upon request and ultimately became attracted physically to her and she is "escorted" to the leader's residence while blindfolded. When inside, the blindfold is taken off and she is introduced to the leader by Zolt himself. He offers her a position as his woman to which she boldly refused and attempted to escape after fighting off his cronies, only making him desire her more and become angry as well that she refused him. She was bound and abused by sadistically by the leader before she did finally escape, yet suffered from burns on her face, chest, and other parts of her body including the stomach and lost her right ear and it had to be amputated and is covered by gauss since her time in the hospital. She was continuously stalked ever since, given love letters that sadistically threatened her, and began suffering from rumors of her being weak towards men and had many relationships in an attempt to drive her to him to make it all stop before being ridiculed for her burns that she couldn't fully heal from the burns she received on her right side and other parts of her body he exposed before she escaped. Children often commented on her burns and women whispered and talked behind her bad about how ugly she was with those burns and that she had terrible taste in clothing and men.

After years of enduring this worry, stress, and abuse, she was about to close her perfume shop before Korra arrived and Lightning Bolt Zolt was stripped of his bending. This brought peace to her so she could slowly cope with the past and move on. After she hears of Korra's deeds, then meets her to get rid of a final threat to her from the new Triple Threat Triad's leader Viper, her intended on having her to rub it in his face when he had the woman he'd desired for so long. Ultimately, his cronies are taken care of by Korra after Song was left injured before Korra had arrived. Korra asks if she's okay and then asked how long this had been going on for while Song Yu was reluctant to reveal everything. Korra soon started opening up about what she had to face, understanding that she was embarrassed of her scares when she wouldn't let Korra, Mako, Bolin, or Asami see her face or body. Asami helps Korra comfort her before Mako asks her to allow them to help her. Song finally tells the entire story and undergoes emotional rehabilitation with meditation and help from Korra and her friends. She ends up happy with herself and returning to being strong willed, proud of herself, learning to love herself for who she was and cope with her burns, as well as she was given a better reputation for being a new friend to Korra. Every now and again, Mako and Bolin come to check on her while Korra and Asami come to buy Asami a bottle of Song's perfume upon loving the scent after testing it out when they first met. Korra would come with She now lives peacefully with a successful business and a happier life.

Personality:
As a child, Song Yu was always very gentle, kind, and stood up for herself from others while still having self-doubt at the end of her confrontations. She later becomes full of anxiety, grief, shame, and depressed and developing PTSD due to her being harassed and abused by the Triple Threat Triad and especially by their leader Lightning Bolt Zolt who forced her to have relations with him even though she refused. She became embarrassed of the burns she got from Zolt that weren't all able to heal by her lack of perfecting her healing or having special water for the job that was available in the South Pole.

After meeting Korra, she undergoes rehabilitation and gradually becomes loving, cheerful, kind, and outgoing while becoming protective. She still has flaws such as being very stubborn, easily provoked by anyone connected to the Triple Threat Triad and is still suspicious about certain men.

She is known to be obsessed with cleanliness in her home and shop and is now in a loving relationship and to be married soon.
