Description

Maeko is Karuna and Gaara's only child and beloved daughter. She's 8 in this picture and is running towards the house as she dangles a bag full of sugary candy, asking Shikadai if he'd like some. He's probably going to have to catch her first which he'll consider to be "a drag".

Maeko stays with her aunt and uncle, Temari and Shikamaru, and her cousin, Shikadai, because Karuna thinks Maeko will experience a more vital, care free, and loving time within the village of Konoha instead of Sunagakure. Karuna and Gaara try to visit as much as possible, but Temari usually brings her along with Shikadai to the Suna couple's house instead.

When you look at Maeko's appearance.
She gets her father's hair color, her mother's eye color and style, and her mother's long hair. She gets Gaara's round face that he had when he was younger as well.

Personality:
While developing most of her father's kind personality and wanting to protect her friends, she also develops her mother's stubbornness and tends to talk back to authority like Karuna's mother used to as a child. She's usually a complete angel to Temari and Shikamaru, but when she's alone with her peers of the same age group or alone with Shikadai, she gets into trouble, having somehow obtained a very high curiosity of unusual items or people and sticking her nose where it doesn't belong. Shikidai, however, also likes to protect her thinking she doesn't know any better and takes all the blame for not watching her carefully enough. He'll often keep her behind him and apologize or get in someone's face if they make her cry and tell them to lay off. Maeko is one of the key triggers to Shikadai inheriting his father's verbal added quirk/phrase "such a drag" when describing troublesome people or situations. Maeko tends to feel regret every time she makes a mistake, being soft like her mother was in her academy days, and Shikadai tends to cheer her up and put a smile back on her sad or pouty face.

Her academy outfit is based on the colors of her father's trenchcoat and her mother's accessories and clan markings like a kimono. Maeko will later inherit her mother's kimono top on her 15th birthday.

If you've seen the bells on Karuna's wrists, you see that Maeko takes a liking to how shiny they are and the sound they make. If you know Maeko, it's very easy to tell when she's around and about as you'll hear her bells jingle with every hop, skip, and jump. If she wants to be stealthy, she'll tiptoe or walk slowly as the bells are usually quieter when she's not so active.
