Description Bryce 5.5

The best way I can think to describe this is as a heavy missile fighter. Armed with 6 Neutron Missles and dual pulse cannons, the Dragoon sports enough firepower to disable the key systems of a light capital ship. While it is larger than a normal fighter, it is quite capable of holding its own against more maneuverable ships.

Enjoy.

Interesting. Of all my sci-fi weapon studies, never heard of a "neutron missile" used for space. Personally, I'd call them torpedoes, simply from the nature of space and how they'd actually have to work; unless they had an internal source of oxygen or oxygen feed to the propulsion system.

When activated, these missiles would have a very small blast and heat range of destruction, but would produce massive amounts of neutron and gamma radiation. Neutron bombs are designed to take out life, but keep buildings and structures intact. While not as nearly destructive as most conventional weapons of similar size, they can be more devastating.

Two things bring my attention to the lethality of neutron missiles:
1. The limitation of neutron damage is caused by air. Space lacks air, and so damage from a neutron explosion would be limited only to the air supported within enemy ships.
2. Their potential effectiveness as EMP weapons (as fusion-fission weapons)

If your neutron missiles pack enough punch (10²² neutrons per cm² per second), the result would be nucleosynthesis: when the elements between silicon and nickel are synthesized by fast fusion, among others. The most notable effect is incapacitation of enemy crew. Still, its a form of tactical use of nuclear weaponry, and would have to be strategic in nature, as death by such weapons would come later. However, being confined to the "coffins" (as would be called ships that were repeatedly struck) would be unnerving, knowing that I (a crewman) am being exposed by such radiation. Death usually comes in a few hours, starting with vomiting your internal organs, your head swelling, and the like.

Nobody would really want to duke a war with you while you employ those Dragoons, at least not without heavy shielding to repel projectile weaponry. I wouldn’t. I’d dispatch all my fighters to take out all, if possible, of those things before allowing any major engagement with my larger ships.

Biological warships would unquestionably be defeated in every battle against those biohazards.

The description was impressive and fitting, however!

Makes the ship much, much scarier... a 1 megaton neutron bomb would deliver fatal doses of radiation to unprotected humans 300km away from the blast centre! Besides that, neutron radiation can apparently transmute the structure of the spacecraft into deadly radioactive isotopes by the toxic magic of neutron activation, so the ship you target is gonna be radioactive for a while after impact, too

Can I also ask, what does the blue on your ships signify?

Uh, well... did you mean the viewport or the blue metal?

I guess it matters not, I'll answer to both. The viewport is blue because that's just how it is. Deal with it.
The blue metal is blue because I wanted come some color relief from the dark grays!

In essense... it is totally benign blue. Just because.

True. I don't so much think of it as being a window so much as something that feeds the visual info back onto screens inside the cockpit.

Nice.
The one thing that perplexes me, thought, is how the missles and the engine are in the same pod....and that missle looks pretty long.

No worries, the missle does not take up the entire tube, it is a split compartment.

Ah. =o that's good. I was wondering if the missiles were somehow part of the engine that's able to be sacrificed. XDD

I couldn't really think of anywhere better to put them anyway. But I did think about it when I made it.
