Wow, Love and War is already 2 years old. It was probably my favorite update, as it was the first major update that I actually got to take part in as I had just become a P2P around then, and even now it's still my favorite, as it introduced my favorite hat (well, technically hair) in TF2, which is the Spook Specs for Soldier, which I have had a unusual Miami Nights version for a little under a year now.

That's something that quite bothered me a bit, I mean, they got three days to live, yet Sniper was all like "yeah okay, I'm gonna play some music for this arse" and Demoman was "ouuuh yeaaaahmmmmdrunk....play piano"
I mean, didn't they have anything else to do in their last three days? Besides humoring the Spy and the Scout?

There's no Respawn in the cannon series. I think they got something like a medicine, but has its limits. Also, they were making thing to do before dying, if they had respawn, they wouldn't do that.

You're right Sniper, we wouldn't be able to handle it. You playing the saxophone, demo playing the violin and his 'whoo', pyro being...pyro, and heavy with his sandwiches...we would not be able to handle any more awesome from you guys. But still we would deal with hit for you guys to have more lines. Pyro playing with the little bread monster at the end was so cute to me...and I'm really glad Archimedes didn't get digested (I think it was Archimedes) that would have just hurt my soul.

Well in the video Expiration Date Demo is seen playing the piano in the dinner scene where Sniper plays the saxophone. There's references to violin playing with Medic's taunts in the game but I'm not sure if his playing violin is canon.

Agreed. I don't like crack-pairings and I don't like poorly written stories, unless they're so bad that they're funny in their own right (regardless of whether or not the series in question is a comedy).
I had not read that fanfiction. Now I have. I believe that this is, more or less, an exaggerated version of how my friends and I have snowball fights. XD

It is so insanely hard to find good fanfics that don't have slash pairings in them. Seriously, when I was looking on Archive of Our Own, out of the 17,000 TF2 stories they have there were maybe 300 that didn't have pairings in them. Technically Scout and Miss Pauling and Heavy and Medic may someday become canon, but until then it's really hard to find good stories that stay away from that. If you want a few without crack pairs, I can send you the link to troll around in.

Currently I support Spy/Scout's Mom. I can see Scout/Miss Pauling happening eventually, though seeing the Scout fail at flirting is hilarious. I can also see Medic/Heavy happening, possibly. If it did, I'd support it. Although when I first found out about the pairing, it was kind of squicky to me, because the Medic reminds me of myself and the Heavy reminds me of my dad.
But I've gotten past the squick and detached the pairing from my Kepler-centric viewpoint.
Anyways, yes, I agree with you. I don't read much fanfiction for TF2, because so much of it seems to either be pairings, angst, or both. Honestly, it's a very silly series about sympathetic but completely crazy mercenaries shooting at each other and doing badass things in a fight over gravel. And hats. I do not understand this fanfiction phenomenon.

And that is why I sympathize over how hard it is to find good literature.
In some cases, a really good writer is shy about writing their own entirely new story, and would prefer to just write about the stories that they love. Artistry is all about passion. Some stories go above and beyond pairings/angst and beyond the merc fight to give them a humanity that would otherwise go unseen. These really bring the characters to life and let us laugh and cry and really put ourselves into their shoes. While Sturgeon's Law Β states that 90% of everything is crap, the remaining 10% really is worth reading, as I have found. Some are Alternate Universes, and some are just little drabbles about their lives, but there are some phenominal writers out there that have chosen fanfiction as their medium. I hope to someday be as good as them. ^-^ I'll just put down a few links to some stories that I really like, and maybe you'll find a few that you like too.

I did wonder what the others were doing during that episode. Still, most of the focus was on Scout (and Spy, Medic, and Engie), so I guess their limited appearances aren't too surprising. I guess it's up to our imaginations to come up with what they might have been up to. Though we did get a glimpse of Demo and Sniper playing music in that one scene. And I think Pyro might have been next to Scout at the dinner table. I guess Spy temporarily recruited them for that. That was in Spy's quarters, right? The guy sure has some fancy digs, especially compared to the rest of the base.Β
I guess Sniper would have called his parents at the very least. He and the others might have thrown a small drinking party as well, maybe even made bets on Scout's training with Spy.Β
